Harry and Draco walk into the common room where they find Hermione, Ron, Fred and George talking to Sirius, Remus and Narcissa. Sirius jumps up and goes over to them "Where'd you disappear to?" he asks. "We just had a quick fly around." Draco smiles. Nodding Sirius leads them over to the others. After a couple of hours the adults stand up. "We've got to go now. We're getting the knight bus home." Remus explains to them. All the teens nod and Fred and George go to lead the out the castle. Draco looks at Harry and nods. "Guys let's go find a quiet room to talk." he tells his friends. Both Ron and Hermione nod standing up to walk out the common room. Making sure Peeves wasn't around Harry shuts the door behind them. "We're right it's the Philosopher's Stone being guarded. Snape is trying to get Quirrel to help him get passed Fluffy. There's more stuff protecting it, enchantments and stuff." Harry explains. "Wait so the Stone's only protection is Quirrel standing up to Snape?" Hermione asks making Harry and Draco nod. "It'll be gone by Tuesday." Ron tells them.
Quirrel must be brave than they thought. In the next few weeks he seemed to get paler and thinner but didn't look like he had cracked. The boys gave Quirrel soft smiles and Ron had started telling people off for making fun of Quirrel's stutter. However Hermione had started making revision timetables and colour coding her notes. "You have to start doing the same thing boys." she tells them. "The exams are ages away." Ron retorts. "Ten weeks is not a long time. Its like a second to Flamel." she snapped. "We aren't six hundred years old. Anyway what are you revising for, you know it all already." Ron asks. "I'm revising because we need to pass these exams to get into our second year!" Hermione glares. The teachers seemed to have the same idea by giving them more homework for the Easter holidays. They all decided to stay at Hogwarts over the break to revise. It wasn't as relaxing because of Hermione reciting the twelve uses of dragon blood and practising wand movements. One afternoon Draco gets a letter along with a letter.
Draco,
I hope your holidays are going well. In the parcel is chocolate for everyone, along with a couple of books for Hermione to borrow. Make sure you revise enough for your exams, though I'm sure Hermione is making sure you all do.
Your Father is home now. He wasn't to happy about seeing Sirius and Remus living with us but I've bought him round.
Hope you all are keeping well,
Love,
MotherDraco smiles at the letter before opening the parcel. Noticing that there are individual parcels inside he hands them out to Harry, Ron and Hermione, putting the twin's to the side for when he sees them later. "They're from mum." he tells his friends. The friends smile and open their packages. Harry smiles when he notices a note from his godfather.
Harry,
Hope the holidays are good and you aren't having to do a mountain of work. If you are try and have some fun in between. Lucius came home to find Remus and I in the house, let's just say he wasn't too impressed to say the least. Narcissa had a massive go at him which made him back off though. Remus and I have sent mainly sweets, although I managed to sneak in a few pranks for you to use. Hopefully you use them on Nott or Snivellus. We've also put some in Fred and George's parcels aswell.
Love,
SiriusThe group all put their stuff in their dorms before heading to the library. Once there they sit in a quiet corner and start revising. "Hagrid! What are you doing in the library?" Ron suddenly asks. Hagrid shuffles into view hiding something behind his back. "Just looking." he told them in a shifty voice making them all curious. "And what're you lot up to? You're not still looking for Nicholas Flamel, are you?" he asks suspiciously. "Oh we found out who he was ages ago. And we know what that dog's guarding, it's the Philosopher's St-" Ron is cut off by Hagrid shushing him. Hagrid looks round quickly to see if anyone was listening. "Don't go shouting about it. What the matter with you?" Hagrid asks. "There are a few things we wanted to ask you as a matter of fact, about what's guarding the stone other than fluffy-" Harry starts only to be cut off by Hagrid. "Listen, come and see me later. I'm not promising I'll tell you anything, but don't go rabbiting on about it in here. Students aren't supposed to know, they'll think I've told you." "See you later then." Draco tells him before Hagrid walks off.
"What was he hiding behind his back?" Hermione asks thoughtfully. "Do you think it had anything to do with the Stone?" Draco asks. "I'm going to look at what section his was in." Ron states getting up and going over. A minute later he walks back over with a pile of books in his arms. "Dragons! Hagrid was looking up stuff to do with Dragons! Look at these: Dragon Species of Great Britain and Ireland; From Egg to Inferno, A Dragon Keeper's Guide." Ron reads out. "Hagrid has always wanted a dragon. He mentioned it when we first met." Harry tells them. "But it's against our laws, Dragon-breeding was outlawed by the Warlocks' Convention of 1709, everyone knows that. It's hard to stop Muggles noticing us if we're keeping Dragon's in the back garden. Anyway you can't tame dragons, it's dangerous. You should see the burns Charlie's got off the wild ones in Romania." Ron explains. "But there aren't wild dragons in Britain?" Harry asks. "Of course there are, Common Welsh Green and Hebridean Black's. The Ministry of Magic has a job bushing them up, I can tells you. Our lot have to keep putting spells on Muggles who've spotted them, to make them forget." Ron tells him. "So what on earth's Hagrid up to?" Hermione asks.
When they knock on Hagrid's hut door an hour later they notice that the curtains are drawn. Inside was stifling hot even though it was a warm day, there was a blazing fire in the grate. "So you wanted to ask me something?" Hagrid asks. "Yes. We were wondering if you could tells us what else is guarding the Stone." Draco tells him. "Of course I can't. One, I don't know myself. Two, you know too much already. So I wouldn't tell you if I could. That Stone is here for a good reason. It was almost stolen from Gringotts. Beats me how you know about Fluffy." Hagrid explains. "You might not want to tell us, but you do know, you know everything that goes on round here. We only want to know who has done the guarding, really. Who Dumbledore had trusted enough to help him, other than you." Hermione flatters. Hagrid smiles and his chest swells with pride at the last words.
"Well I don't suppose it could hurt. Let's see... he borrowed Fluffy from me... then some of the teachers did enchantments. Professor Sprout, Professor Flitwick, Professor McGonagall, Professor Quirrel, Professor Snape and Dumbledore himself." Hagrid lists off on this fingers. "Snape?" Harry asks. "You aren't still on about that are you? Snape helped protect the Stone. He's not going to steal it." Hagrid tells them. "Are you the only one who knows how to get past Fluffy aren't you? And you wouldn't tell anyone would you? Not even a teacher?" Harry asks anxiously. "Not a soul. Just Dumbledore and myself." Hagrid assures. "Hagrid can we open a window? I'm boiling" Draco asks. "Can't sorry." Hagrid tells him. Harry notices Hagrid look at the fire causing him to do the same. "Hagrid what's that?" he asks seeing a huge black egg in the flames. Hagrid starts fiddling with his beard nervously "That's er..." he trails off. "Where did you get it, Hagrid? It must have cost you a fortune." Ron says getting a closer look at it. Harry looks at Draco confused. "It's a Dragon's egg." he tells Harry. "I won it in a card game last night from a stranger. He seemed quite happy to be rid of it to be honest." Hagrid explains.
"But what are you going to do once it's hatched?" Hermione asks. "I've been doing some reading. I got it out the library, it's a bit out of date but it's all here. Keep the egg in the fire, because their mothers breathe on them. When it hatches feed it a bucket of brandy mixed with chicken blood every half hour. Look here's how to recognise different eggs, this one is a Norwegian Ridgeback. They're rare." Hagrid explains looking happy. Hermione looks the opposite "Hagrid you live in a wooden house." she explains. However Hagrid wasn't listening, he was humming merrily as he stoked the fire.
