James and Lily take the four friends to their quarters "You're a Parselmouth. Why didn't you tell us?" Ron asks Harry when they come to a stop. "I'm a what?" Harry asks in confusion. "A Parselmouth!" Ron repeats. "It means you can talk to snakes." Draco explains. "I know. I mean, that's only the second time I've ever done it. I accidentally set a boa constrictor on my cousin Dudley at the zoo once—long story—but it was telling me it had never seen Brazil and I sort of set it free without meaning to that was before I knew I was a wizard—" Harry responds. "A boa constrictor told you it had never seen Brazil and you set it on your cousin?" James asks his son, biting back a laugh. "So? I bet loads of people here can do it." Harry shrugs. "They can't Sweetie, that's why everyone was muttering in the Hall. It's not a very common gift." Lily tells him. "Why's everyone acting like it's bad? What's wrong with everyone? Listen, if I hadn't told that snake not to attack Justin-" Harry starts. "Oh, that's what you said to it?" Ron asks. "What d'you mean? You were there, you heard me." Harry tells them. "We heard you speaking Parseltongue." Draco tells him gently. "Snake language. You could have been saying anything—no wonder Justin panicked, you sounded like you were egging the snake on or something—it was creepy, you know." Ron explains.

"I spoke a different language? But—I didn't realize—how can I speak a language without knowing I can speak it?" Harry asks, looking at his parents in confusion. "We don't know, Harry, we'll work it out though." James assures him. "D'you want to tell me what's wrong with stopping a massive snake biting off Justin's head? What does it matter how I did it as long as Justin doesn't have to join the Headless Hunt?" Harry asks. "It matters because being able to talk to snakes was what Salazar Slytherin was famous for. That's why the symbol of Slytherin House is a serpent." Hermione explains. "Exactly and now the whole school's going to think you're his great great great great grandson or something." Ron adds. "But I'm not." Harry responds. "We'd find that hard to prove, he lived about a thousand years ago; for all they know, you could be. I know you're not because your grandfather was proud of our heritage and would always look into it, he would have found something. It's just getting your classmates to believe it." James tells his son. Harry sighs "What do I do then?" he asks. "Keep your head down, we'll try and work out what's going on." Lily tells him, Harry nodding in response. "Come on, you four need to get back to the common room, it's going to be curfew soon." James tells them. "Night." Harry's friends say, leaving their quarters.

Harry stays back "Mum, Dad... the sorting hat tried to put me in Slytherin, do you think that might have something to do with it?" he asks. "Harry, no matter what we know that none of this is happening because of something you've done. So what if you were nearly in Slytherin? Regulus is a Slytherin, and so is Cissa. You're not a bad person and anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know the real you." James tells him. Harry smiles and nods, hugging his parents before going to catch up with his friends. Draco takes his hand, pulling him back as Ron and Hermione walk a bit ahead "Are you alright?" he asks, concern in his eyes. Harry nods "Mum and Dad are looking into it, I'm alright." he responds, Draco nodding and kissing his cheek as they follow their best friends.
