What did thank you even mean?
My mind ran wild that night, trying to decode what Subin had meant. Until finally I crashed and fell hard asleeep. So hard that I didn't hear him leave, so hard that I missed Byungchan's phone calls. The alarm clock next to me read 9:45am and I jolted out of bed.
As I rushed to get both legs into my pants , I realized I wasn't late for class. In fact today was Saturday and I plopped back onto Subin's bed. I continued to calmly put on my Converses and wonder why he left me. Why he hadn't mentioned he had somewhere to be in the morning.
The phone rings, and the incoming call is the seventh this morning from Byungchan. Along with the calls, there are at least ten unread text messages.
"Hello", I answer casually. "Hello", He answers back cheerfully.
Byungchan was naturally happy, or at least when we were together. Once upon a time I might have a had a crush on him. But truthfully Byungchan was more of a companion type, not a boyfriend. Most days when I would give up on love, I'd think; Who needs a boyfriend, when I have a Byungchan.
But then the urge to kiss someone would arise and that was a line Byungchan and I would never cross. We had gotten so close he felt like family. And kissing my brother was not an option.
"Comeback to the room", He pleas and hangs up immediately.
By the sound of his voice, Byungchan must be up to something. I search for my shirt, eager to leave and find out what I would find in my own room. Oddly, the shirt is no where to be found.
So I decide to make my way down the hall shirtless, expecting the corridor to be empty. An unexpectedly running into someone new.
