Hiccups

The tension was thick for maybe a minute, until Subin broke the silence with hiccups. I could smell the distant smell of alcohol from his direction. I wondered if there was a special occasion, if subin enjoyed drinking, or if subin was just sad.

"Why'd you drink tonight?", I whisper loud enough for him to hear me, but quiet enough that he could ignore if he didn't want to respond. I was met by silence so I took the hint and turned to my side. As my eyes closed shut, Subin broke the silence. "Stupid reasons," he sighs.

Subin changes the subject, trying to hide the shame. He begins to ask me about everything, from the basics right down to the most embarrassing things i've admitted in my life. The more we ask each other the more things we found in common. The time flies by and before we know it, it's 4am and we hadn't slept all night. The hiccups were clearly gone by now and so were Subin's worries.

As I ramble on, I was startled by  snores and notice Subin had dozed off. I let my heavy eyelids  win as I begin to fall asleep too. Subin struggles to get comfortable until he finds his spot facing me, his lips a couple of inches away from mine. So close I could hear his faint breath as his slept. And some how the sound of his breathing, awoke in me the urge to kiss.

Before I knew it, a pair of soft lips had landed on mine. I kept my hands to my side, avoiding placing my hands on his body. He bit at my lower lip and created friction with our noses. His faint breathing had gotten louder, along with my heart trying to beat out of my chest.

I tightly closed my eyes, hoping the  feelings fade away. Subin finished his attack on my heart and places his hand on my tense arm. "Thank you," He expresses his gratitude as I lay there in confusion.
