What We Could Be // cake

Chapter 17

Luke's POV.

I felt myself getting all warm as bubbly inside as Calum told me those words. He smirked before getting off me and just sitting upright and I sat up with him.

It was so tranquil, I loved it. Calum took my hand in his and played around with my fingers. I felt my phone buzz in my pocket. It was an unknown number asking if I wanted to hang out.

"That's Layla." Calum chuckled.

"What am I supposed to say?" I asked.

"I don't know, but she has the biggest crush ever on you, I swear to god." Calum said.

"Yeah, and so does Leo." I sighed and Calum's smile wiped off his face.

"Yeah... and so does Leo." He repeated with a sigh.

I didn't really know what he expected me to say. I texted Layla back asking who it was just to make sure and she said it was her. I wasn't sure if I wanted to because Calum looked slightly disappointed so I said no.

"Have you realized how many people like you? You're really lucky." Calum said and I raised a brow.

"I mean, everyone wants to be with you or be your friend. Layla, Leo, Pheobe, Michael, Ashton." he continued.

Wow, I guess a lot of people do like me. But the only person I was going to accept was Calum, Ashton and possibly Michael. I still wanted to get to know him more. Hopefully I could do that at school tomorrow.

Calum's POV.

I closed my locker to see Leo standing there. I sighed and began to look for Luke but he grabbed my bag.

"What the hell?" I asked and Leo yanked me back.

"Calum, have you ever realized how many people hate you?" Leo asked.

This sounded like Luke and I's conversation only better. I admit, I was annoyed that Luke said Leo liked him instead of me. I felt like Luke actually liked Leo.

"Dave, me, the teachers... Luke?" he smirked.

I frowned.

"Look for yourself lover boy." Leo rolled his eyes and held out his phone.

He showed me a picture of Luke sitting with Layla at the milkshake place I showed him. When did that happen?

"Sorry." Leo shrugged and walked away.

But... but that couldn't have happened... could it? Everything seemed to have stopped. I couldn't hear anyone and everything was going fuzzy. He showed Layla the place I first took him? He showed Layla the place that I took him for three dates in a row?! Anger now boiled up inside me.

Someone tapped on my shoulder and Luke was smiling behind me.

"Oh woah, are you alright? What did Leo do?" Luke asked.

"Why the FUCK did you take Layla to the milkshake place?!" I snapped and Luke's eyes widened.

"I didn't take her anywhere... you saw what I wrote on my phone." He said shaking his head.

"Are you sure? Because how did Leo get a picture of it?" I asked.

"Calum, you're really going to believe Leo? I didn't do anything!" Luke said.

I sighed and rubbed my temples.

"What?" Luke asked and I ave him a questioning look.

"You were mumbling something like 'not again, not again'." Luke said.

"I was bullied in freshman year." I sighed.

Luke's eyes widened once again. The bell interrupted us and we walked our separate ways. Class whizzed by and it was soon lunch. We sat down at the usual spot and Michael was already there.

Ashton soon came in and sat across me, like usual.

"Luke, have you ever played FIFA?" Michael asked and Luke's head snapped over to Michael and he slowly shook his head.

"Do you wanna hang out sometime? We could play FIFA." Michael smiled.

"O-okay." He stuttered and looked at me.

I smiled and he relaxed slightly. I didn't know why Luke was so scared of Michael. Michael can be the nicest person on earth, but he can also be the biggest asshole, but that's only in breakups and fights.

Again, Leo was staring at Luke and Michael realized and flipped him off.

"Luke, if you ever need help with Leo, come to me. I'll deal with it." Michael said.

I knew Luke didn't want Michael to be violent but he was too scared to talk to Michael. I encouraged him by motioning my head over slightly.

"Okay j-just don't be violent." Luke said and Michael nodded.

Michael was actually really tough for someone as fragile as Luke. Maybe Luke and I could work out at the gym together one day.

The bell rung and Ashton and I agreed to hang out and Michael and Luke already were. I was begging to god that Michael wouldn't do anything to scare Luke away. He was really mean when it came to FIFA.

I gave Michael a warning look and Michael put a hand up. I then walked off to class.
