Finally math ended and I rushed to grab my stuff and get out. "Hey! Brewer wait up!" I stopped. Not because of anything except I was brave and I was going to face him head on. "What up Hollister?" I said leaning against a locker. He leaned against one too, "I didn't catch your name." I smirked "I didn't give it." Ryker smiled and I saw how green his eyes were. I had hazel eyes and I hated it, I always wanted green eyes. "Well that's a first. Generally girls are just dying to give me their names but," He stepped closer to me and brought his face close to mine, "you don't want to." I realized then and there that he was a flirt. I leaned in closer, "I won't give you my name because of this; maybe it will deflate your huge ego to know that one girl didn't give out their name just because you smiled at them." I smiled and walked off. Four periods later, it was lunch; my favorite class. I sat down by Tyler, Em, Riley, and Joy; my squad. We talked about how things were going that day and I told them about geometry. Tyler sighed, "That's adorable." I frowned, "No it's not! I'm trying to get my message across that I don't like him!" I replied. "You could try a little harder." Em said. Tyler, Riley and her laughed. That was Em for you, the princess of witty comments. I glared at them all and then Riley spoke up, "I think that he may like you!" I pretend sighed, "Riley, dear, he is the biggest flirt, the most annoying person, a sore loser, AND he-" "I know that guy is totally like that!" Ryker had interrupted me. "Get lost." I said to him without any kindness. "Be nice! Hi Ryker, I'm Tyler this is Em, Riley, and Joy." Tyler said pointing to each one of them in turn. Ryker sat down next to me, "I like her," he said motioning to Tyler, "And I'm not getting lost until I learn your name." He sat there and stared at me expectantly. Tyler, Em, and Riley all laughed but not Joy. Man, what was her problem lately? "Why do you want to know my name so much?" I stalled. "Because it's a free country." I groaned "Fine my name is-" "Her name is Jay, so if she could please stop being such a flirt and just tell you her freaking name, it would be much appreciated." Joy exclaimed. Ryker stared at Joy for a second and then looked at me, "Okay Jay, apparently you're a flirt, I like that." He winked at me and walked off. I really hated him. Tyler, Riley, and Em were all staring at Joy. Riley was the first to speak, "What was that all about? The level three hissy fit was NOT necessary." Riley was fiercely loyal. "Yah, what was that? Way to keep your cool." Em said. "I agree with them what happened Joy?" Tyler asked sympathetically. "Look, all I was saying was that Jay was being a total flirt with someone that would NEVER go out with her. She's not popular, none of you are- er, I mean us. None of us are popular, Ryker's already the quarterback for the football team. They had tryouts over summer. We're nothing but middle class losers to him." Joy was being the total opposite of joyful. The bell rang and everyone went back to class. That was when it happened. It started with the most popular girl in school, Ella, came over flanked by her numerous followers and started being a total jerk to Riley. I told her to shut up and she and I started to throw insults at each other. Before I knew it the bell rang and I was late to class. If I wasn't careful, I would be caught by the tardy sweep and be given a detention. I had just about made it to class when Coach Brawnson had caught me and given me a detention with him, I was forced to attend football practice and help manage supplies. Football Practice+ Jay+ Ryker= A recipe for disaster. I was not looking forward to the end of school anymore. I had received a detention and it wasn't even the second day of school yet, my mother will be so proud... not.
