I walked in and was surrounded by loud music and teenagers, lots of teenagers. Tyler walked over to Will and they started a conversation. Em and Riley went over and grabbed a drink.

I pulled my jacket off my shoulders and looked around. Snowflakes were hanging from the ceiling while everything in the room was white or a shade of blue. It was beautiful.

Someone stood in front of me. I looked up and saw Ryker (he was looking like a Greek god I might add) looking down at me, "Are you just gonna sit here the whole night?" I smirked, "I just might." He smiled and held his hand out; I took it.

"You look great Jay." He smiled at me. "Thanks, you look okay... I guess." I said that was just kidding and he pulled me onto the dance floor.

"Ryker! I um.... I don't dance." Ryker rolled his eyes, "You don't or you can't?" "You know the answer to that. Besides, sure I can slow dance but dance to a fast song? With a guy? Nope. Sorry." I started to walk away. Ryker turned me around by my shoulders, "Just try. Please?" Woah. Did he just use manners? Did Ryker freaking Hollister just use manners?!

"Fine." I groaned and went back to the dance floor. I looked around us for someone I could copy. Some couples dancing was just downright disgusting. Others were too elegant like they were at a ball.

Five minutes later, I still didn't know what to do. My all time favorite song came on: Pompeii by Bastille. This was something I could jam to. Slowly I started dancing and Ryker joined in. By the end of the song I was a confident dancer.

After about ten more songs, Ryker grabbed my hand and we went out the door in the back of the country club. We weren't the first people to find it, people had come out here to escape the stuffiness of the dance.

Ryker pulled me all the way to a little pond of fish. "I know how cheesy this is going to sound and the scenery is pretty cheesy too." He paused. "Here goes. Jay, I know how you feel about me and..." He never got to finish his sentence. Time paused after that moment. He knew, he knew that I liked him and he was about to tell me he didn't feel the same. I interrupted him, "I know. You don't like me back and it was stupid of me to come anyway. I don't even know why I thought you might like me. You could have any girl so why would you choose me? You wouldn't. Look, I don't know why you asked me to this dance if you don't like me but I hope I fulfilled my purpose. I'm gonna go." I ran out of the yard, out of the dance, out of the building.

What. Just. Happened. Did she say she liked me? I think she did. But she had thought that I was going to tell her that I didn't like her back! I didn't even know she liked me! I was going to say that I knew she saw us as only friends. I sighed and walked back into the dance.

Then it hit me. The girl of my dreams was running out of my life. I started running in the direction she went; I couldn't lose her.
