"Dude, we're just friends." I said. It hurt to say it but whether I liked it or not, it was true. Jay didn't like me. I needed to understand that.

I couldn't lose Jay. If she said we were friends, then that's what I would be. Jay continued talking to Tyler until she left. She mumbled a goodbye to me and grabbed her skateboard from where it had been leaning against the wall.

Will and Tyler left soon after that, hand in hand. In all honesty, I was extremely jealous of them. Why couldn't I have that with Jay? This was the first girl to EVER not like me back. She was also the only girl who didn't completely adore me. She was the only thing in my life that didn't make any sense; I loved it.

I loved everything about her. Her sarcasm, her bravery, her headstrong nature, the way she smiled and laughed, her eyes, and so much more. That was it. Tomorrow I would tell Jay! At the Winter Formal I would tell Jay that I liked her.

I drove over to my friend Alex's house. I had three really good friends. Alex was first, he was the bad boy at our school as strange as that may sound. Then there was Jack, he was your classic class clown. Last but not least was Zackary. Zac was the romantic guy who all the girls fawn over, he was a playboy. He never liked girls back, he was just a flirt.

I pulled up and went into where we usually hung out, Alex's basement. When I ran in Alex and Zac were playing air hockey. "Look who it is." Jack smirked from the couch. I sat down next to him. "What chick were you with this time?" Zac asked, his eyes never left the hockey game.

My friends didn't know about Jay other than having met her at school. "Speaking of chicks... ever met Jay Brewer?" The hockey game stopped. Everyone looked at me. "Jay Brewer? Dude, don't get me wrong she's hot but not your type." Alex said, he had no idea. "Yup, I tried hitting on her over summer break. She's feisty." Zac winked. "Dude, stop it. That's just weird and makes everyone uncomfortable." Jack made a face at Zac. "Wait. You like HER?" Jack asked. "Um... yeah. I guess I do." Alex and Zac sat across from me, "Okay. So let me get this straight, you could have literally ANY girl in the school, heck even the town and you chose Jay Brewer?" Alex said. "Yeah... That can't end well. Your whole reputation is down the drain if you do that!" Zac said. "That's who you've been hanging out with all this time?" Jack asked.

"Stop it. She's amazing and any guy would be lucky to have her." I said. "We know. That's the thing, no body's ever had her. Shes never once been in a relationship, she won't know what she's doing. It'll embarrass you." Zac said.

"I gotta go." I started to leave, "Just think about it okay?" Jack asked. Jay was amazing and dating her wouldn't be bad. It also wouldn't ever happen so they didn't need to worry. Most likely I would tell her that I liked her and she would not return my feelings. Maybe my friends were right...

I shook my head. No, I needed to tell her.
