Adrian's P.O.V

About five girls stood circling her, their eyes masked with concern and fear. I didn't know if it was from my mate lying unconscious on the floor, or if it was the anger in my face as I ran towards them, barely holding my wolf back.

I growled, and the girls immediately stepped back, giving me space to hold her in my arms. My wolf whined in sadness at the feeling of her cold, limp body, and I howled at the sight.

"Is she dead?" I heard Katie's small voice speak up, and I whipped my head round to stare at her.

"What. Did. You. Do. To. My. Mate."

Katie froze, and one of the girls answered for her.

"We were training, a friendly battle. When all of a sudden she cried out in pain and fell to the ground."

I looked back at Ailani, calling her through my mind, waiting for a response.

No answer.

"Her eyes were clouded..." another girl spoke up.
"Yeah like, a silvery grey colour. At first we thought it was her wolf trying to break free..."

"Witchcraft." A small, black woman said from within the group. Something about what she said made my hair stand on end.

I picked Ailani up bridal style, and stood over the young girl who had begun speaking.

"And you are?" I asked, my voice low and authoritative.

"My name is Rhea, I am from the Bajan pack," she looked at Ailani's body in my hands. "I believe that this is the doing of witchcraft."

"And how can you be so sure?"

"Trust me when I say, Alpha, that magic has a very powerful aura. I can feel that something isn't right here."

Ailani stirred in my arms, and I held her tighter to my chest. "What do you suppose we do?"

"She needs to be with the Elders. They'll know what to do. Their wisdom precedes ours by far."

I looked at Rhea, and could imagine her being a Luna. Her confidence and authority was commendable. I smiled at her kindly, taking a mental note of the help she had given me today.

"Very well, you shall accompany me, along with Katie. The rest of you," I looked at the other girls, their faces still confused and fearful. "You shall return to the pack house, and speak nothing of this."

***********

"Sophia, forgive me for leaving so quickly, there was an incident on the cliffs and my mate Ali-."

"Lay her down on the table, Alpha."

Sophia's voice was abrupt and scary. I gulped and did as she said, shivering at the way her face remained straight, her lips baring a thin line.

"What is wrong?" Catalina, who had stayed behind with Solomon and the rest of the Elders, looked at Ailani worryingly.

"Witchcraft." Rhea and Sophia spoke simultaneously, exchanging knowing looks with each other, ignoring the several gasps that came from the rest of the table.

"What do you mean witch-."

"You of all people should know about the power of magic, Catalina. Your physic powers derive from the ability of a witch."

Catalina was silent, but she knew that Sophia was right. No werewolf has the ability to see the future. Catalina was special, and very rare.

"If this is not the doing of witchcraft, then I do not know what this is. But I am certain, so certain that this is dark magic we are dealing with."

"Not to be rude, but she just fell, during training. And you think this is because of a witch?" Solomon spoke up from his silence, criticising Sophia's judgements.

"Boy, sit down." Rhea scoffed. "You know nothing. Once you have experienced the power of magic, especially dark magic, you never forget the feeling."

"How old are you?" Solomon asked Rhea, screwing her.

"Age has nothing to do with wisdom. Knowledge and wisdom go hand in hand. The more you know, the wiser you become. You obviously know nothing."

"Silence." Sophia shushed the bickering, and began to circle Ailani, who was still laying unconscious on the table.

She placed a firm hand on her forehead, shaking her head with concern.

Then without any hesitation, she grabbed Catalina and put her hand firmly on her forehead. I watched in horror as Catalina's eyes rolled back and the breath was knocked out of her.

"What are you doing?" I asked Sophia.

Her eyes were somber when she looked up at me.

"We must see."

Catalina's P.O.V

She was trapped in a chair, her muffled cries bouncing off the black shadows that were surrounding us. A thick black serpent was wrapped around her like wire, squeezing her small frame harshly and slowly.

Every time I would run up to her, she vanished and appeared somewhere else, far away from my reach.

"Ailani." I cried.

"Oh, so that's her name?" A voice like satin erupted from the darkness. Soft like honey, but dangerous and eerie. "Ailani," she repeated, her french accent sneaking its way into her words.

"Witch!" I spat.

A gust of wind span round me, knocking the breath out of my lungs. I could feel her presence, a hand choking my neck.

"If I'm a witch, then what are you?" She hissed.

"Let her go!" I screamed, fighting the urge to cough.

"She must die!"

I wanted to stay in that dark room. I wanted to get more out of the woman who attacked me. I wanted her name, her whereabouts, to see her face. But it was as if she had drawn me in and shut me out again, ripping me away from that room as quickly as she had pulled me to it.

"Catalina, no more!"

Sophia had to remove my hand from Ailani's forehead, scowling at my tendency to stay and torment myself even more.

"Well?" Sophia asked after a few minutes of silence.

I breathed a shaky breath, focusing my attention on Ailani and her unconscious body lying helplessly on the table in front of all the Elders of the pack. I tried hard to disguise my fear with a certain confidence, but I failed.

"It's her, señora. She's back."
