Ailani's P.O.V
"So, how are we gonna win this then?"
Our group was spread out deep within the forest that surrounded Lake Limpiar, three hours had already gone past since Adrian had declared that the game had started. Katie, Jack and I were walking with Amanda, Maddie and Andre, the rest of the team had started to walk westwards.
"We stick together," Andre stated reassuringly, scanning our surroundings to check for oncoming opponents.
"Well we've already failed at that," Maddie said. "Half of our group has gone in the other direction."
"At least we have these," Katie said, waving the walkie-talkie device that was given to us by Adrian and his beta.
Andre shrugged. "It would be better if our fucking powers were back," he moaned. "I don't want to use this stupid piece of technology during the Mating Call."
"Well tough luck, Andre. We're going to have to make use of what we got, our powers aren't coming back for another 3 weeks." Amanda said, slinging the backpack she had a little bit more on her shoulders. "Besides, you guys are going to need this." She gestured towards Jack, Katie and me. "Until you find a mate or get initiated into our pack, you won't be able to mind link the rest of us."
"Wait, what do you mean?" Katie asked, stopping in her tracks. Just underneath the canopy of a large tree.
Amanda looked at her with a confused look. "You guys can mind-link each other right?"
I quickly answered her question. "Of course!"
A sigh of relief washed over Amanda's face. "Okay, that's good. But until you get initiated into our pack, you won't be able to mind link any of the werewolves here."
"And how do you get initiated into the pack?" I asked, walking alongside Amanda.
"The Alpha has to bite you," Maddie said casually, kicking the bundle of leaves out of her way as she walked.
I must have gasped aloud, because Amanda and Maddie gave me a weird look. "Surely you knew that?" Amanda cried raising her eyebrows curiously. "Every werewolf goes through it when they turn 12."
There was a slight pause as I tried to figure out something to say. I had no idea that that was even a thing, I should have read the memo Jack gave us.
"We're rogues," Jack said matter of factly. "We've never had a pack, it has just been us three."
Amanda eyed me closely, a slight look of disgust on her face. Within a second it quickly vanished. "You're lucky I like you guys. Us werewolves don't get along with rogues at all, they're ruthless, reckless and a bunch of scavengers."
"Ouch," Jack said, faking a wound.
**********
"Can you see them? Over there behind that shed?"
"That's Maxwell's group. Be careful, he's pretty good with the knife."
"A knife requires face to face combat, fortunately for us we have Ailani over here." Maddie looked at me with a smirk and nodded towards my bow and arrow.
"I don't get it," I said. "If I hit someone with my arrow, what if they die?"
"Don't worry about that," Andre said. "You're seriously good with your aim, so just wound them in a place where it will hurt. They will heal quickly."
"But I thought your powers were gone?" Jack questioned, squinting his eyes into the distance.
"A werewolves healing process isn't considered a supernatural power. It runs through our veins. When we say power we mean our mind-links, speed, super strength... you know, that kind of stuff." Amanda explained.
