"I knew there was something off about you, something I couldn't quite put my hands on."

We were still sitting in the room, only the man in front of me and the girl standing in the corner, observing us, were back to their "normal selves." We had probably been sitting in silence for the past 5 minutes now, with the man staring at me, waiting to see my initial response.

"So you guys are werewolves, right?" I asked, hands crossed over my chest.

The olive-skinned man looked at me with the most suspicious curiosity I had ever seen. He opened his mouth to say something, only to close it again and then sigh awkwardly, still glaring at me like I was the one with the fangs coming out of my mouth. He looked over to the girl, who shrugged nonchalantly and shook her head at me, before giving me his full attention.

"How comes you haven't freaked out yet?" The man finally asked, bemused.

"You'd be surprised, the internet has a lot to say about werwolves these days. Personally I read books about you, fictional books that is, but I have always been open to the possibility of your kind existing."

"And what exactly does it say about us in your books?" He said, getting slightly curious.

I leant back in my chair, somehow feeling a bit more comfortable around them. They weren't going to hurt me. "Mostly that your villainous savages, extremely attractive, which..." I pointed to the lean girl staring at us from afar, and then slightly... And I mean slightly, gestured to the man in front of me before saying, "Which isn't entirely fake."

"What else?" He asked.

"Let's see..." I gave a small sigh of thought. "Apparently you worship someone called the Moon Goddess, there is an Alpha, who is the leader amongst every pack, you all have mates which are partners destined to be with you, blah blah blah." It seemed that at the mention of the word 'mates' something triggered inside the man, which made him quickly glance over to the girl who was with him.

"Let me guess..." I started. "You think Ailani is a werwolf." When I said this the girl coughed back a laugh and the man shook his head, disappointed at my assumption. "Or do you think her parents are werewolves?" I questioned again.

"No, no, you've got this all wrong," the man said.

"Then why else would you want Ailani?" I challenged.

"Well you see, it's a bit complicated but..." There was a huge pause between the two of us. I could see it in the mans eyes that he was struggling to find a way to word his explanation to me.

After about 5 minutes of nothing, the girl walked across the room, stood in front of me and said; "The Alpha, his brother, is your best friend's mate."

"No Katie don't touch it."

The room we had stepped into was one full of weapons. Silver, sharp swords were hanging on the pristine walls around us, shining gloriously in the sunlight entering through the blind-less windows that overlooked the back of the hotel.

"Why on earth do they need all of this?" Katie asked, pulling open a drawer full of daggers. She picked one up and then pretended to lunge at me, giggling as I jumped backwards in defence. "It's as if they're getting ready for some kind of war..."

"So you're at war with the humans?"

"No, not exactly at war, yet that is. We are just enemies. Really strong enemies." The girl was the one doing the talking now, her name was Catalina. The guy hadn't told me his name yet.

"Which is why Ailani being human is a problem."

"No, it's why Ailani being human is a massive problem. She's in danger Jack. You're all in danger." Catalina's green eyes were piercingly serious. Her attractiveness wasn't enough to distract me from her solemn glare.

"Why are we in danger?" I asked, raising my voice a little. "You're werewolves, you know that we're not any threat to you guys."

The man shook his head gravely. "You don't understand. Everyone who is a werwolf is made to believe that you are the enemy. Even as kids we are taught that to make contact with a human is the same as committing treason. Our kind does not like you."

"Do you like me?" I asked, raising a brow accusingly.

"What reason is there for me to like you?" The man snapped back.

"What reason is there for you to hate me?" My response made him stay quiet.

"Look," Catalina said. "There's no time for us to argue. You and your friends are in grave danger. If the Alpha finds out that he has humans on his territory, his first instinct will be to kill you all."

"But how can he kill his mate?" I said. "Surely he won't kill his mate."

"Ailani is not a werewolf, the Alpha will not know she is his mate until they make physical contact."

There was a long silence between the three of us.

"What kind of physical contact are we talking about?" I questioned curiously......

"A true love's kiss." The girl said, her voice high, sweet.

And sarcastic.

"I wonder if there are any bombs in here?" Katie mused, wandering around the large room, searching in every chest.

"I hope not," I replied. "I'm freaked out enough as it is."

Katie was staring at a certain dagger in particular, bedazzled with what looked like gold diamonds on the handle. I was admiring a shield in the corner of the room, placed in a glass case that was positioned on the floor. The shield looked heavy, and was polished to the 100th degree, so that its edges glistened every time the sun came out behind the clouds.

"That looks ancient," Katie said coming up behind me.

I didn't draw my attention from it. "Maybe it is ancient," I answered, mouth agape slightly. I could've sworn that the design on the front of the shield had the letter 'A' discreetly engraved on it; but I figured it was time to go and so turned my head away and made my way towards the door.

"I think we've been in here for too long Katie," I said stopping short watching her pretend to fight the air with another blade she found. "We should go."

Katie sighed but nevertheless put the blade back where she had found it. Then she beat me to the door and began to twist the doorknob.

"Ugh, this heavy door just won't budge!" She cried, twisting and re twisting the handle both ways.

I laughed at her attempt to open the door, and then pushing her aside, tried it myself......

Then I tried again.

The smile I had on my face quickly changed to one of serious panic. The door wasn't opening.

"Katie. The door isn't opening, it's locked."

"But how can it be locked?"

"I don't know," I cried, still desperately trying to open the door.
