We then cut back to the astral plane where Optimus asks Alpha Trion how to stop The Fallen, saying that there must be a way. Alpha Trion tells Optimus that only the power of two can defeat the one, and Optimus asks Trion what he means by that. Alpha Trion tells Optimus that in time all will be revealed, saying that he understands he had a duty to protect earth but he must be patient. Optimus asks Trion how he knew about Earth's existence, and Trion tells Optimus "2007 wasn't the first time the people of Earth made contact with Cybertron... our worlds have met before". Trion beckons Optimus through another portal where they wind up on Egypt circa 17,000 BC where we see ancient Egyptians bowing down to The Fallen who sits atop a makeshift throne, referring to him as "Set" the Egyptian god of chaos while The Fallen oversees the construction of a massive star harvester. Alpha Trion explains to Optimus that during The Fallen's time in exile he continued Liege Maximo's work building Star Harvesters on several inhabited worlds leaving a trail of death and destruction in his wake until his ship the Nemesis crash-landed on a distant moon in the Sol system (referring to Titan, of course). there he discovered the planet Earth where he made contact with mankind who worshipped him as a god. he used this to his advantage and turned early man into a slave labor force who built a star harvester on earth for him. we then see Liege Maximo show up on Earth to tell The Fallen that the machine is coming along nicely, but The Fallen is not so happy to see Liege Maximo's treacherous face again. The Fallen calls Liege Maximo a traitor for not vouching for him when he was judged and banished by the council of primes, but Liege Maximo tells The Fallen "your banishment was quite unfortunate brother, but there was nothing I could do about it without exposing my true colors to the rest of the council so somebody had to take the fall. but don't worry, I'll make it up to you. we will use the energon collected from the star harvesters to fuel an army to overthrow the council of primes and take over Cybertron, and you and I will rule over the planet together! what do you say?" only for The Fallen to use his telekinesis to lift Liege Maximo into the air and crush his armor. Liege Maximo asks what The Fallen is doing and begs for mercy, and The Fallen impales Liege Maximo through the chest with his scepter. The Fallen then tells Liege Maximo "you lied to me, you manipulated me into betraying the ones I called my brothers and got me banished and stripped of my rank and honor. you don't deserve mercy, only death". The Fallen then wedges his scepter deeper into Liege Maximo's chest killing the treacherous prime. after Liege Maximo's lifeless body falls to the ground, The Fallen uses his telekinesis to tear the carcass of his treacherous brother into a million pieces in a fit of rage. The Fallen then lifts his staff into the air and is about to plunge it into the ground to activate the star harvester to destroy the Earth, however before he can get the chance he is stopped by the 10 remaining primes who tell The Fallen that his reign of terror on the galaxy is over and surround their former brother. The Fallen stands his ground and proceeds to brutally massacre his brothers one by one until he's the last one standing, thus ending the age of the primes. The Fallen is gravely injured by the battle and uses his teleportation abilities to return to the nemesis on Titan. there the fallen then puts himself into stasis lock in order to save himself from certain death where he laid dormant for the next thousand years. Optimus and Trion return to the black void and Optimus asks Trion why the primes with their infinite wisdom couldn't prevent all of this from happening, and Trion tells Optimus that contrary to the legends the primes aren't gods. they can't remedy all of the world's problems. The Fallen chose his fate, and it was that choice that ended up starting the endless cycle of anger, hate, and betrayal that would lead his descendants down the same dark path as he once did. Trion then beckons Optimus through another portal where they end up on Cybertron just a few thousand years later, Trion explaining to Optimus that after the age of primes ended the prime legacy fell to his apprentice Sentinel Prime who inherited the Matrix of leadership and became Cybertron's one and only ruler ushering in a new golden age, for now at least. we then see a small mining village located in the slums of Kaon where we see a bunch of working-class bots working in an Energon mine. Optimus notices something familiar about one of the workers, only for him to recognize the bot as a young Megatron. Trion tells Optimus that he wasn't called Megatron back then, explaining that during Sentinel's tenure as Prime he tried to bring back order to Cybertron after it fell into chaos by the end of the age of primes by establishing a caste system (otherwise known as functionism) where your vehicular form would determine your role in society. the lower-class workers of Cybertron were never given names, only serial numbers. his (Megatron's) number was D-16. Optimus watches as the miners are hard at work mining energon crystals, with the now-deceased Rumble and Frenzy getting cameos as mine workers. one mining bot is suddenly trapped under fallen rubble and D-16 stops what he's doing to rescue the miner. the miner tells D-16 that he shouldn't have saved him, saying that he'll anger the warden if he finds out. however it is too late as the warden marches into the mine and demands to know why D-16 isn't doing his job, and he tries to explain himself that he was just trying to help out a fellow worker in need. the warden doesn't take the excuse lightly, demanding D-16 to get back to work while threatening him with his laser-whip. Megatron refuses to back down, calling out Cybertron's corrupt government and its unfair treatment of lower-class citizens. the warden is then angered and starts beating D-16 into submission with his laser whip, causing the poor miner to bleed energon profusely while the other miners watch in horror. the warden tells the other miners to let this be an example of what happens to those who don't do as they're told before ordering them all to get back to work. the other miners resume their duties mining energon crystals while the battered and beaten D-16 struggles to get back up. the warden asks D-16 if he's learned his lesson yet, and D-16 fed up with all the abuse he's endured kills the warden by beating him to death with his pickaxe. D-16 stands triumphantly with his body soaked from head to toe in energon, and all the mining workers cheer on D-16. Trion tells Optimus that D-16 then gave himself a name that fateful day: Megatronus, after the fallen prime before eventually shortening it to just Megatron. we then transition to a massive gladiatorial arena held in Kaon. Sentinel is visiting to oversee the spectacle, as the gladiatorial games are being held to determine who will become Sentinel Prime's apprentice and eventual successor to the title of prime. we then get a montage of several bots entering the ring to fight a massive cybertronian beast and failing, all getting mauled, crushed, and reduced to scrapmetal one by one. but then a mysterious new challenger enters the arena: none other than Megatron himself carrying a sword and shield getting in a fighting stance to confront the metallic monster. Sentinel asks who this guy is, and Sentinel's advisor tells him that he calls himself "Megatron" and that he's a miner from the slums of Kaon who claims to be the descendant of Megatronus, the mythical fallen prime who's existence was erased from the history books. Megatron then charges at the large cyber-beast, leaping onto its back before delivering the killing blow by decapitiating the creature with his sword. Megatron lifts his sword into the air, the audience cheering while Sentinel Prime watches in disbelief. we also get a brief cameo of Starscream sitting next to his buddy Jetfire amongst the crowd saying "impressive" in response to Megatron being able to slay that large beast all by himself. after the games are over we cut to Sentinel talking to Megatron in private, asking why some lower-class nobody claiming to be Megatronus's descendant would come out of nowhere wanting to become his apprentice. Megatron explains to Sentinel that he believes himself to be worthy of the Matrix of Leadership, saying that in his upbringing all he knew was pain and suffering working in the Energon mines and that if he were to become the next prime he would use that power to make Cybertron a better place where other bots don't have to endure the same hardship that he had to. Sentinel even though he was the one responsible for Cybertron's functionist society takes a liking to Megatron, admiring his noble intentions and agreeing to take him under his wing as his apprentice. the two shake hands and Optimus gets all nostalgic seeing Megatron before he went bad. Trion then beckons Optimus through yet another portal where they end up on Cybertron's capital city of Iacon. Optimus recognizes the city, as it was once his home. Optimus looks up at the temple of the primes before we transition to Sentinel prime sitting in his office. it has been a couple months since he took Megatron under his wing as his apprentice and he has made great strides progressing through his training, becoming quite the strong warrior. Sentinel's advisor enters his office to tell him that the Institute for Higher Programming has informed him that one of their most recent graduates, a young bot named Orion Pax, has expressed interest in becoming an intern at the temple with the hope of becoming Sentinel's next apprentice. Sentinel tells his advisor not to be ridiculous, saying that he already has an apprentice. a Prime having two apprentices was unheard of, as all the past primes only had one. Sentinel's advisor tells him that the Institute is insisting that he take Orion under his wing, they believe that there's something "special" about him. Sentinel reluctantly agrees to the institute's terms and asks his advisor to take him to meet the kid. Sentinel is escorted outside the temple where he is greeted by a young red-and-blue robot who introduces himself as Orion Pax, saying that the Institute of higher programming sent him here to train under the legendary Sentinel Prime. Sentinel tells Orion "you're looking at him". Orion starts fanboying over being in the presence of a real living prime and starts shaking hands with Sentinel showing Orion's wide-eyed youthful optimism. Orion tells Sentinel that he's heard all the stories about them and never in his life did he ever expect to be trained by one. Optimus recognizes Orion Pax as his past self, and Trion tells Optimus that it's hard to believe that a wide-eyed young bot like that ended up becoming the stoic Autobot leader we know today, war can change a bot. Sentinel then beckons Orion through the hallways of the temple until they enter the circular meditation chamber with statues of the 13 primes that line the walls, Orion in awe of the statues recognizing all the primes, except one asking Sentinel who the unknown prime is. Sentinel tells Orion that is the 13th prime, but his name is unknown as it was lost to history. Orion comments on how the mysterious 13th prime looks a lot like himself before Sentinel introduces Orion to his other apprentice, Megatron. the two take a liking to each other and shake hands showing the beginning of their brotherhood.
