Months passed. So does our tiring and mentally draining exams?
As a promise, I treat Brix nicely. Naging mabait na ako sa kaniya. At first, I struggle kasi hello?! All this time I'm hostile and cold towards him tapos biglang boom! Mabait na 'ako.
Our friends- Marian, especially Jin actually picked us because we become close really fast. Nagseselos na nga si Jin dahil mas madalas ko na daw kasama si Brix kesa sa kaniya. Well in fact, iisang grupo lang naman kami. Baliw talaga.
Brix is good in almost everything. Magaling sa klase, sa chess, sa pag-sulat ng tula at iba pa. He's full of humor too,na 'di ko napansin noon dahil sa hate ko sa kaniya. But now that I get to know him, I know now why he's friends with Cole. They're both passionate and goal oriented.
"Hey! May perma ka na ba kay Mrs. Ford?" ask Jin.
Umiling ako. "Wala pa, 'di ko pa siya nakikita mula kanina" I answered.
Nandito kami ngayon sa school para tapusin ang clearance namin. Today's the last day of signing kaya mejo hassle. Yung ibang teachers nag papahabol pa. Kasalanan to lahat ni Marian eh! Kung di lang sana siya nag extend ng vacation at nagsabi na sabay-sabay kaming mag pa-sign. Nunkang paabutin ko pa sa last day ang clearance ko.
Speaking of the devil.
"Hi guys," she greeted smiling w and waved at usm "Sorry I'm late. Traffic." she explained like it can resolve everything.
I almost roll my eyes at them. Good thing I fought the urge to do so.
"Hello, mabuti naman dumating na kayo" Jin said instead. Probably feel the need to cover my fake annoyance.
"Wala pa ba si Brix? Text niyo nga" I annoyingly said. Still part of the act.
Dali-dali namang kinuha ni Marian ang phone niya ang call Brix instead, who's also part of the plan.
"Hey!" she greeted when Brix answer the call, "Where are you? Naghihintay na kami dito sa bench sa gilid ng gate" pause, "sige. Sasabihin ko" then she face her back on us to whisper something. "Bilisan mo, malapit ng bumuga ng apoy to" I almost laugh and ruin the act because of what she said.
She turn around and I immediately show my annoyed expression. I can't help but roll my eyes at Cole who's silently laughing his ass out sa likod ni Marian. Pag kami nabuko, patay siya sakin.
"Malapit na daw si Brix, konting hintay lang" Marian timidly said. Afraid that I might actually blow. Naawa tuloy ako sa bestfriend ko. The reason why she's afraid of my sudden outburst is because, she witness one. And I'll say, it's not a good experience for her- and for me too.
The 4 of us waited for Brix to arrive. The 3 of them is talking about the vacation and I just listen even if I have the urge to join their talk.
Damn this idea of Cole. Kapag ito, pumalpak, humanda siya sa'kin.
After 10 minutes of waiting, Brix finally arrive.
"Good morning guys, sorry I'm late. Emergency lang." he said smiling at us. Inirapan ko nga. Ang sabi 5 minutes lang, nabot siya ng 10.
Marian's the one who enthusiastically greet him back.
"Good morning Brix" she greet him smiling, almost hoping for another set of words from Brix but failed.
I saw the sudden change of emotion in her eyes but she quickly covered it with a bright smile.
My poor bestfriend.
We finally begin to hunt our teachers for their signs. Nakakapagod mag libot. I regrert not wearing flats today. Di naman kataasan ang heels ko. Mga 2 inches lang siguro but still, ang alay at sakit niya sa paa.
By lunch, we're able to have a sign more than half of our subjects, with only 2 remaing signs needed from the head of the grade 11 department and our Principal. Next week, we can enroll ourself.
"Ang sakit ng paa ko" reklamo ko agad sabay pisil sa mga iyon pagkaupo namin sa pwesto namin sa canteen.
Past 12 na pero ngayon palang kami mag la-lunch. Buti nalang wala na masyadong mga estudyante dahil tapos na sila, di tulad namin na hinintay pa last day ng signing. Hassle talaga.
"Buti nalang naka flats ako" Jin said placing her bag on the table.
I look at her and pout. "Sana nag flats din ako, magakakapaltos ako sa lagay na'to" worried that I might have one, tinaggal ko muna sapatos ko.
"Yuck naman Mikaela! Ang baho" Cole exclaimed when he saw me getting my shoes off my feet. He just arrive together with Brix with our food.
"Ulo mo Cole!" inamba ko pang ihampas sa kaniya ang sapatos ko. "Itikom mo ang bibig mo para di mabaho" pambabara ko.
"Burn/ toasted/ grilled" Marian, Jin and Brix simultaneously said that made us laugh except for Cole.
He grumpily put down our food and to annoy and tease him more, I stuck my tongue out and he made face in return.
We finally eat after they put down all of our food in the table.
While eating, we plan to came by Marian's house because of her invitation. Yeah right. Like we didn't know that they have a celebration for her birthday.
Yep! It's her birthday and I guess no one have greeted her ye in our group. We plan to act like we forget her birthday. What she didn't know is that, even her parents is our accomplice. Maiyak ka sana beshy.
We talk while eating. Purposely avoiding her birthday as a topic. We talk about the vacation and what did we do during those days.
"Nag Palawan kami and Coron is a must to visit" pag-kukwento ni Marian.
"True. Maganda din sa El Nido besh," si Jin habang umiimom ng juice niya.
"Nag Batanes kami, ang ganda dun. One of the must visit place din to sa Philippines" I said. Sharing my experience in Batanes. Promise ang ganda talaga dun.
The boys talk on their own, the 3 of us too. They would sometimes include us in their talk and us to in our talk and in the end, we ended up talking all.
"Anong pwedeng makain sa bahay niyo besh?" Jin ask Marian. We just finish obtaining the sign of the principal and are now walking our way to the gate, the 3 of us linking arms with each other. The boys' in front of us, having their little conversation too.
She think for awhile. Probably debating if she should tell us the party's that is going to happen or just let us be surprise later.
In the end, she choose the latter.
"Marami namang foods sa bahay, just choose later" she said, indirectly telling us that there's actually a party for her.
While waiting for her Dad to fetch us, my phone beep.
"Guys, sorry. I don't think I can come with you, nag-text si kuya Fort na magpapasama daw sa lakad niyang party kasi wala ang GF niya" I explained, apologetically looking at them. When they said OK I stormed off left them after waiving goodbye.
"I'll just see if I can catch up later, sorry talaga" pahabol ko pa. I saw how Marian's face sulk hearing me. I feel a bit regretful but it's for her too, so i'm good.
Naghihintay na si kuya Fort sa labas so madali akong nakasakay sa motor niya.
I'm safe now. Bahala na sila sa excuse nila. Haha.
