Chapter - 20

"No,no not the smiley..Ugh you are a baby."Roxanna muttered.
Anastasia snickered.
"Aww look at that, your toes look so adorable."Anastasia pouted like a baby.
"Yes,for a five year old."Roxanna shook her head.
"You know I"m glad we decided a girls' night."
"Me too.With Xander being out of the city,the mansion feels eerie at night."
"Feel free to crash at my condo anytime."Anastasia smiled at her gratefully.
Both of them were lying lazily on the queen's bed of Roxanna's condo.
Anastasia shimmied out of her jeans and revealed a lacy boxers.
"Woah..hot legs lassie."Roxanna whistled.
"No wonder,Xander is smitten with you."Anastasia rolled her eyes.
"Smitten seriously?"
"Have you ever noticed my brother watching you from the corner of the eyes everywhere you go?"
"You are delusional Rosa.Xander?Stalking me with his eyes?
Unfuckingbelievable!"Anastasia exclaimed dramatically throwing her hands up in the air.
Now it was Roxanna who rolled her eyes.

"You.."
Just then Anastasia's phone rang loudly.
"Its Xavier."
"Please handover my phone Rosa."
"No way.He is just trying to be a third wheel.This is strictly girls' night."Roxanna declared.
"But atleast let me talk to him."Anastasia mock glared at her.
"See?He stopped."
"What were you saying?Right Xander."
"Exactly.My brother is whipped Ana believe it or not."
Now it was Roxanna's phone that rang.
"Ugh,Xavier this better be good or I swear I'm going to murder you."
"Switch on the bloody television."Xavier's voice boomed through the speaker of the phone.
"Huh?"
"Do it Roxanna."Xavier's sound was serious and urgent.
She switched on to the television and flicked on to the news channel.
"Breaking News
Billionaire Xander King hospitalised due to drug overdose.
According to our latest report,his blood was tested with high amount of Mescaline(Peyote).
Billionaire Xander King who is always on the front page for his socializing behaviour is now caught in this illegal act.
Mescaline is a Schedule 1 drug...."
"No way..Roxanna whispered.
Xander and drugs?No..I cannot even fathom the thought."
"Listen I'm leaving for Washington now."Xavier was put on speaker.
"Without us? Xavier Is the private jet
available?"Anastasia enquired.
"Sure it is."
"Meet us at the hangar by 10."Anastasia declared.

Anastasia's lips were trembling.Her mind was racing with different ideas.Her knees weakened.

"Anastasia..Xander will be fine."
But even to Roxanna the words sounded hollow.
Anastasia hummed a response.
Quickly both of them got ready in the required time and headed to the hangar.

When they boarded the aircraft,a fresh wave of nausea exploded inside her.
Outside her appearance seems calm,inside a storm was brewing.The thought of losing Xander crossed her mind and her body jolted in revolt.

"Xander is stable Ana."Xavier assured soothingly.
She nodded in response.The rest of the journey went smoothly.Any conversation seemed negligible as everyone was completely on their own world.Thinking.Praying.

As soon as they reached the Washington Dc Hospital.Anastasia,Roxanna and Xavier rushed inside only to be obstructed by the swarming paparazzi.
"Mrs King are you aware of Xander's drug abuse?"
"Mrs King since when did Xander got addicted to Mescaline?"
Calming her nerves and sandwich between Roxanna and Xavier,Anastasia sprinted towards the hospital.

"In the reception area Xavier enquired,"Where can I find Xander King?"
"He is in the ICU,3rd floor."
Both Anastasia and Roxanna drew in their breath.
Ever the supportive,Xavier side hugged both Roxanna and Anastasia.
"We all need to be strong.Is that
understood?"
Both the woman nodded like an apt student.
When they entered the private ICU everyone gasped.
"Oh my god Xander.."Anastasia said under her breath.
Xander was hooked to several channel of IV and medicines.
A transparent tube was connected to his mouth.

Anastasia couldn't stray her eyes away from Xander.A tear rolled down her cheeks.When she noticed the other two people,their expression were mirroring hers.Only Roxanna was full on sobbing silently while Xavier look pained.
He quickly made his way out of the ICU into the doctors chamber.Roxanna and Anastasia made a beeline towards him.

"What the hell has happened to my
brother?"Xavier's voice boomed.He was full on angry.
"Mr.King was diagnosed with Mescaline a very dangerous drug.It has contaminated his blood.He had a seizure.That's when we realised its no common allergy.We ran a few test which revealed that Mr.King has been taking Mescaline for quite sometime now.

"What the hell!Xander is not a drug addict."Xavier intervened.
"The next 24 hour is very crucial to him.We are trying our level best to cleanse his system but.."Dr.Monroe continued ignoring Xavier's comment.
"But?"Anastasia intervened
"We are afraid his heart might give away and we will thereby lose the patient."Dr.Monroe,a man in his early fifties with salt and pepper hair and a kind face replied honestly.
"No,no.Please don't say that doctor.Please."Roxanna was sobbing.

"Shhh..baby sis.Xander will be fine.He is strong as a horse.We King's men do no give up easily.Xander will fight.He'll have to."It looks like he was not only assuring her but also himself.
All three off them made their way to the waiting room.
"Have you inform Dad?"Anastasia enquired.
"Yes,just before we boarded the plane.
He and Mom are on his way from Spain.They'll be here soon."

After waiting for a couple of hours..Xavier offered some biscuit and coffee to Roxanna.
"Thanks Xav."
"Ana..here's your biscuit and coffee."
"No thank you Xavier.I cannot stomach anything right now."
Understanding dawn on his now tired face.
Roxanna looked guiltily at the food.
"Hey,you ate very less for dinner.We don't want another invalid do we Xav?"
"Absolutely not."
"Xavier,how is Xander?How is my son?"
"Dad.."Xavier's voice cracked.
Until now Xavier was nothing but a rock but his demenour shifted the moment Bruce King announced his arrival.He was still the youngest of the King's men afterall.
Bruce and Xavier hugged each other.

"He'll be fine.My son will be fine."
Roxanna hugged her mom and started crying again.
Anastasia started to stand but her head swayed so fast.
"Whoa ,whoa Ana."Bruce King held her arms and helped her to sit.
"I'm fine.."she responded weakly.
"Have you eaten anything?""
"I offered but she refused."Bruce brought some refreshment and hand over it to Anastasia.
"Xander will want to see you when he wakes up.Don't you think you should be strong enough for him?"
Bruce King fatherly nature gave her a warm feeling.He reminded her very much of her own father.
In the interim,a nurse came into the waiting room.
"Mr.King has regained his consciousness.He wants to see Sia.I presume you know who it is?"
"Its me.I'm Xander King's wife."
"Aah that explains it.He kept chanting your name.You can meet him but mind you,he is very weak."
Anastasia nodded and quickly went with the nurse.
She stepped inside the room.The smell of antiseptic hitting her nose.
The tube connected to his mouth was now removed.
Xander's eyes were closed.It appeared as if he is sleeping.
Anastasia covered her hands with his other hand which was not hooked to any channel.
"Sia.."Xander opened his eyes and said weakly.
"I..uh..I."
"Ssh..you shouldn't talk Xander."
"Wa..ter."His voice croaked....
