Chapter - 19

"But you didn't try to hurt me.Why?"
"Was I not the same beast to you?"

She took a deep breath.Reminiscing the past and sharing it with Xander was one thing,but risking her heart was another.Although he was completely unaware of the feelings she was harbouring for him.

Xander had an undue advantage to break her heart.And daresay,she cannot risk that.

But still the question remain Why?
Why did the thought of harming Xander did not cross her mind?
Wasn't the act of self defence also applied against Xander?

She again a took a deep breath.
"Xander..I..uh I."
Just then Xander phone ring loudly.
"A minute..I have to take this."He looked at her guiltily.
Anastasia nodded.
"Saved by the phone."She whispered under her breath.

Xander returned after five minutes.
"There is an important meeting.I have to.."
"Its alright Xander.I have said what I wanted to say.Now the ball is in your court."

"Sia.."His voice was pained.
"I want you to stay.I promise to not hurt you anymore.Besides we have a lot to process.Let's turn over a new leaf and take one day at a time?"
Anastasia nodded hopefully.
"I should get ready for the office as well."
"Why don't you take the day off?You have already gone through quite an ordeal yesterday."He grimaced.

Very slowly she walked outside his room.The heaviness around them was gradually lifting.

It was almost midnight.Xander hadn't returned till now.
Where was Xander?She wondered.
She immediately recieved a call from Xander.
"Sia.."
"Xander.."
"Where are you?"
"I have to leave for Washington for a very important work.I'm in the airport."
"Everything good?"
"We just recieved a news of a fire outbreak in one of our factory.I have to be present in person to verify the total loss of human lives and our property."
"Oh my God."Anasatsia gasped.
"Don't worry."Xander replied calmly.
"Though the whole factory is gutted.There are reports of few casualty.I have to visit the site urgently."
"You should go.Umm..
Something I can help you with?"
"Nothing that can't be dealt later.Whereas there is one thing I would like to ask from you?"
"And that is?"
"Keep your eyes open Sia.I smell trouble."
"Could you elaborate?You are being too vague."
"That is something I'll explain you when I'm back."
"Take care Xander."
"You too.."
And he hung up.This was the first real proper conversation they had.But what did Xander indicate?
What trouble?
Anastasia couldn't sleep that night.The ghost from the past and the recent revelation has left her worried.
All night she kept tossing and turning.Finally she fell asleep during the early hours of morning.
The next day Xander didn't call up until lunchtime.
Despite her assertion to steer clear from all the office politics.She had to be alert all the time.Which applied mingling with the office crowd.

"Is Xander really a beast in the sack Anastasia?"
She wondered how many times she has to answer this awkward question related to her non-existent sex life.
"Seriously,Talia you are incorrigible.Sorry Mrs.King."
Mrs Mason a woman in her late forties rebuked a very bubbly Talia.
"Talia can be..uh.."
"Inquisitive."Anastasia supplied good naturedly.
Both the women laughed while Talia pouted.Talia was sweet yet funny.She had that girl next door appearance.

"Ana..you here?"
"Hey Xav..Miss me already?"
Xavier rolled his eyes.
"Rosa just entered my office.She is wreaking havoc.I cannot deal with her tantrum now."
"Are you seeking my help Mr.King?"
Xavier narrowed his eyes.
"Why,yes Mrs.King."
"Then say please."
"Excuse me."
Anastasia shrugged.
"Ugh..fine you two are going to be the death of me.
Please Anastasia help me."
"Aww..sure."
"Talk to you all later?"She addressed to her newly found friends.
They both nodded.Both of them had a small smile on their face.

"Hello Ana..where the hell were you?I searched the entire building."
"And good morning to you too Rosa.I'm fine thank you."
"I'm sorry,where are my manners?How are you doing?"
"Good."They both hugged each other.
"You guys are soo sweet.Its gives me tooth ache."
"Not sure about the Kings' men but we Kings' woman are definitely great huggers."Roxanna winked at Anastasia.
"So why the chaos sissy?"
"See,she has already learnt our lingo? Isn't it Xav?"
"Sure,sure."But his mind was occupied elsewhere.
Watching Xavier frowning.
Anastasia questioned him.
"Any problem Xavier?"
"Xander is not there,so I have a lot on my plate right now."Xavier muttered.
"Speaking of,any word from Xander?"
"Not that I'm aware of.He's totally MIA since yesterday."
"Is he alright?"
Hearing the worried tone from Anastasia.Roxanna intervened.
"What'd I miss?"
Both Xavier and Anastasia sighed heavily.
"Our factory in Washington has caught fire yesterday.Xander is on site.And he hasn't called yet."
"And you people didn't think to inform me?"
"I'm sure its nothing.Besides I always believe no news is good news."Xavier said calmly.
Just then Xavier's phone rang.
"Think of the devil."
Anastasia rolled her eyes.
"Put the phone on speaker."Roxanna proposed
"Hello Xander."
"Hey,Xav."Xander's sound came out very slow and pained.
"Are you alright."
"If by alright you mean that our entire factory has been reduced to rubble.And we do not have to face huge loss.Then yes,maybe everything is alright."

"Mr.Xander you need to take rest."A woman's voice was heard on the background.
"Who is that and where are you Xander?"
"Hospital."
"What?"Roxanna shrieked while Anastasia gasped.
"What the fuck Xav?
Is the phone on speaker?"
"Uhm yes."Xander cursed under his breath.
"Xander you okay?Why are you in the hospital?"Roxanna enquired.

"Nothing to worry about baby sis.I'm allergic to smoke remember?I thought the fire would have been subsided but I couldn't be more wrong.
Anyway long story short.Me,alongwith many workers pulled out some people trapped from fire.And the rest is history."
Xander exhaled.
"They are running a few test.I'm under observation."
"What had been the root cause for the outbreak of fire?"
"The local police is investigating.I have entrusted some people.I'll soon get the result."
Anastasia was all the while very quiet and chewing her lips.
Xavier noticed Anastasia's worried face and quickly changed the topic.
"So,Xander while you were busy playing the vigilante someone here is extremely worried about you."
"Is Sia there?Handover the phone to Sia."
"Oh smart man."Xavier winked at Anastasia.
She took the phone and stepped into her own office.
"Xander.."
"Sia..I'm fine."
"Are you sure?"
"Absolutely."
"You told me,about the trouble."
"Just forget about all that.I shouldn't have confided in you in the first place.Its too risky."
"You know I'm not a pussy."Anastasia replied angrily.
Xander chuckled.
"Sure,whatever you say."
Both of them went quiet.After sometime Xander spoke softly.
"But I want something from you."
"Name it Xander."
"I want you to stay with Roxanna or Xavier until I return."
"But why Xander?"
"Just do it Sia.Something is heavily wrong.And I intend to solve it."
"Can't you involve Xav in it?"
"No,no" He almost shouted.
"The less people know,the better."
"Are you sure?"
"Positively."
"Promise me you will not disclose this with anyone?"
"I promise."
"And stay with Rosa or Xav."
"Okay Xander I'll stay with Rosa tonight."
"Sia..one more thing."
"Yes?"
"Thank you for everything."
She bit her lip from being emotional.
"Take care Xander and come home soon."
"Soon.Talk later...."
