Chapter - 36

She blinked and blinked rapidly.She doesn't seem to have heard right.Was Xander Freaking King proposing to her?
Yeah right?If pigs could fly.Her inner self scoffed.
Xander was waiting for her reply with  bated breath.She was frowning.
"And?"
How cute did she look chewing her lips?
"Aren't you gonna answer me?"Xander never imagined that his life would take such a turn.Xander loathed the idea of marriage yet here he was proposing.
"I am sorry what was the question again?I really seem to have heard wrong."
"No Azalea you heard it right.
Will you marry me?"He asked confidently.
"And what makes you thing I'll say yes to you?"
Out of the many answer he didn't expect this.
"Might I enquire why?"
"Yeah..I mean I pretty much insulted you few moments ago."
"If you are calling me a manwhore its..umm I think true at some point.I'm not denying it.
So you are saying no to me because you think I can't keep it in my pants?"

"I'm not judging you Xander.It's your life.All I'm saying is if you are married to me I would expect that you do not insult me."
"Insult you?As in?"
"As in I know this will be a marriage on papers only.So I would expect full co-operation from you."
Xander looked momentarily perplexed.
"Fine.. I don't want you to sleep around.
There.. I said it."
Xander flinched but quickly recovered.He probably deserve that.
"You mean I would have to sign a pledge to remain celibate as long as we are married?"
Azalea nodded.
"You don't have to sign in any papers per se.Your word of honour should do the deed."

"And what about you?"Xander asked abruptly.
"What about me?"She asked perplexed.
"Doesn't that applies both way?"
"Pfft..that shouldn't be a problem."She waved her hand in dismissal.
"Why is that may I know?What if you have some secret lover ?And let's face it,humans have needs."
"Need arises when we want something.And you cannot want something what you never had."Azalea whispered.
"Does that mean you never had sex?"Xander was shocked.His eyes widened.
"Umm..no I never uh..uh."Her face was almost red.
He gulped and open his mouth to say something then decided against it.

He got up from the bed and stand near the window facing another side.
"That was quite the revelation."He murmured.
He turned around and faced her.
"Fine that doesn't change a thing.I will give you my word as long as we are married I will be faithful to you."
Azalea was ecstatic.
"Then Yes,Xander I will marry you."
She smiled at him softly.
They both nodded and an understanding passed between them.

After that everything happened in a fast forward mode.
Only one day before she was worried about attending the merger.
Now her life has turned topsy turvy.She was on her way to New York.
Xander was urgently summoned by Bruce King,which gave Azalea couple of hours to pack and to bid goodbye to her friends and family.
Her parents were emotional at her departure.
"Take care of yourself Lea."Both her parents said again and again.
"And call us when you decide to marry."Daniel joked with Xander.
"Definitely Sir."
"Call me Dad or Daniel.You are a part of this family now Xander."Xander nodded his head in acknowledgement.

On board,Azalea was happy,yet worried.Now her next move was to find Xander's killer.
"You know for a girl you think a lot."
"Shouldn't I find that comment
insulting?You mean to say girls don't think?"
"I didn't insinuate that."
"Sexist."Azalea muttered.
"I mean that mostly girls think about their clothes,beauty and what?jewellery.
Whereas I presume your area of concern is quite different.I can't exactly put my finger on it.But there is something which is disturbing you."

"Are you some sort of mind reader?"
"Naah,I just observe people."
"I was thinking about something very different.Clearly you are very good with that Mr.King."
"Why thank you Miss Evans."
Someone cleared his throat.
"Mr.King?The papers you asked for."
Mr.Lord appeared with a channel file and handover it to Xander.
After shuffling the papers.Xander placed a pen and paper infront of Azalea.
"Our marriage agreement."
Azalea nodded and read the papers thoroughly.She did not trust Mr.Lord.
"This says that I am to inherit five million after our mutual divorce."
"Yes."
She looked at Mr.Lord then at Xander.
"Please cancel this."
"You need more?I can certainly do that.Alastair why don't you..."
"No,I mean I don't want a penny from you."
"But.."
"This is not up for bargain Xander.When I said I don't want your money.I meant it.This is a real marriage....for me atleast."
She whispered the last line not before Xander heard it.
"Thank you Alastair.You may do as Miss Azalea proposed.I'll take it from here."

As soon as Mr.Lord depart.Xander laid his hand on her and squeezed it.
"This is real Azalea.It's just that I don't believe in marriage.My commitment to you has nothing to do with marriage."
Her big blue eyes lanced his grey one and once again they were lost in their own world.
