Chapter - 31

"See this was the absolute reason why I didn't want to tie myself down."Xander balled his fist tightly and spat angrily as soon as he was out of the Evans' house.
"And that's a bad thing because?"
"Don't test my patience."He warned her.
"On the contrary I think you did great out there."
He looked at her skeptically.
"I mean,a guy like you who has been served everything in a silver platter.You mixing with us commoners and that too in a polite manner,was not how I pictured you?"
"You don't know shit about me."
Only if you knew.Her mind raced.
"Yeah,sure whatever."
"All I'm saying is you were good with them.And I really appreciated.Thank you."
He looked at her for any sign of flattery or insincerity.When he found none.He nodded slowly.

"Then,I might have to stay for a couple of days more?"He muttered.
"What for?"
"Your parents are good people.They might not be a fan of me just yet.But deceiving them doesn't seem right."

Yet again she witnessed his humane side which he rarely display it to the world.For the world he maybe the beast but only his own people know his hidden soft side.

"You are right.I feel so bad."Her eyes glistened with tears.
He felt sympathy for the beautiful girl in front of her.
"Let them get comfortable with me.Then I'll ask for your hand?"
"Umm sure."
"Goodnight, I'll come tomorrow then?"Xander King was being unsure.
Because she couldn't control herself.She kissed Xander's cheek completely catching him off guard.
"Thank you for being nice to my parents."
"Uhmm sure."Xander stammered.Since when did he stammer in front of a girl?He chided himself.
He gritted his teeth and with a curt nod left her at her door.
This girl was monopolizing his thoughts and he was all sorts of disturb.

Its been a week,and everyday Xander pay visit to the Evans.Today he was due any moment for the dinner.
"I still can't get a hold."
"Of what Gia?"
"That you are dating the mighty Xander?"
Azalea rolled her eyes.She still remember the second day when Xander came unannounced and Gianna stood stuck like a mannequin.
Her whole body froze,with the exception of her eyes which kept blinking.Her mouth gape open.
"Lea who is that creepy girl?"Xander questioned Azalea looking at Gianna weirdly.
"Umm..she is my best friend."
"Right.But why is she behaving like,like you know?"Gianna was making him uncomfortable for she still stood transfixed on the spot and staring at Xander openly.

"Stop laughing at me.I was shocked."
"Yeah,yeah whatever helps you to sleep at night."
"But tell me one thing."
"Huh?"
"How did you even meet him?"
"We met at a gala held at our college."Azalea replied as a matter of fact.
"And why do I not remember any of it?"
"Because your mother was having a bad day.And you decided to stay with her."Azalea said gently.
In retrospect,Xander was actually one of the guest of honour in her college.He told her when her parents were earshot.Though Azalea didn't get the opportunity to meet him that time.

"Lea?Xander's here."Camilla announced.
Azalea bit her lip.
Her heart skipped a beat.
She quickly stepped down her room.Her eyes latched onto him.
She smiled at him.
He stilled for a moment.Azalea was looking exactly out of a vision.This time he hugged her.
Azalea was surprised at first then from the corner of the eyes she noticed her parents witnessing their union.
Aah,only for show.Her heart lurched out in dismay.
He stared at her.With little makeup,her skin glowing,her hair pulled up in a messy bun
and wearing a white sundress,she was the most desirable women he has ever seen.

Camilla and Daniel cleared their throat.
They both looked at them with so much love.
Dinner was far more pleasurable experience then Azalea anticipated.Atleast,it wasn't as awful as she feared.Dan and Xander discovered that they had some genuine common ground including love for football  and watching horror flicks.

"Why don't we watch something now?"
Gianna suggested
"Why not."
"I have brought The Exorcist."Gianna proclaimed.Xander and Dan looked at each other sharing a secret smile while Azalea and Camilla protested and pouted.

When the movie started,Xander ignored the armchairs that were on either side.Instead,he sat beside her.Not down the opposite end of the sofa either,but so close that their thighs were brushing and she could feel heat sparking between them.He lifted his arm,and ran it along the back of the lounge,dangling his fingers perilously close to her shoulder.

She gulped nervously.
"Scared?"He teased her whispering in her ears?
The hairs on her back stood up.
"Not for the reason you think."She murmured and swiftly face palmed herself.
Beside him Xander chuckled softly.
The movie started halting every commentary.
Throughout the movie,she was perfectly aware of him as he was of hers.
Every now and then Azalea squealed softly and hold on to him.
He was enjoying yet he was groaning secretly.Her entire body was brushing his.Her nails were digging in his arms.She chewed her lips continously.His eyes was focussed on her full lips.
He made a guttural sound and swore.
She was almost sitting on his lap by the time the movie ended.
"Most horrible movie!"Camilla exclaimed.
"I second that."Azalea interposed so did Gianna.
"Your plan you doofus."
"How would I know it was so scary?Atleast you had your boy toy.Think of me.I was feeling like a third wheel the entire time."That made everyone laugh.

"I think it was the best movie ever.Not at all scary."
Xander remarked loftily.Arrogance radiated from him but Azalea didn't care.It suited him;his arrogance was clearly an inherent part of him.

"Exactly,not at all scary."Dan chirped beside Camilla.
"Men."She muttered.

Azalea was looking upstairs every now and then.
"Want me to check for any ghost invasion?"Xander asked playfully.
She shot him a look.

"I'm coming."She excused herself.
Xander quietly crept behind her.
As soon as Azalea was nearing the washroom,Xander made a strange sound.
She jumped and latched into Xander's arm.
"Definitely best movie ever..."
She hit him with his fist.
He was laughing so hard that tears streamed  down his face.
"You should have seen your face."He said between his laughter.
Azalea pouted but simultaneously smiled at him

Finally he calmed and quickly masked his expression.He could abruptly switched his emotions,she will give him that.
"I umm..wanted to propose you."
"Huh?"
"Listen I have never done this."
He produced a vintage diamond ring.
Azalea reminisced the day when Xander wanted to put a ring on her finger.
She kept her emotions at check and cleared her throat.
"You are proposing me near the
washroom?"She mock glared at him.
His eyes widened.
"Sorry."He said sounding nervous.
"Fine,fine I'll go easy on you."
"We are meeting tomorrow at your apartment.You will propose me there.Be innovative and yes surprise me."
"You know this is all a farce."
"Uh-huh as far as I know this farce we are playing is taking place in real life.Hence,tomorrow.Proposal.
Surprise me."She emphasised in every word.
"You're very bossy."Xander muttered.
"Takes one to know one baby."She smiled at him sweetly.
