{Thomas's POV}
I looked around the store, Mary and I had split from Jane, apparently, she was also searching for our gifts while we were here, I'm not sure why she was looking for our gifts today and at the same store as us no less, but whatever, Jane can do whatever she wants I suppose.
"Hey Mary, I'm planning this one present for Alex, but I don't know if it's a good idea..." I spoke up as we walked through the toy aisles to pick gifts out for our youngest siblings.
"Oh? Don't know if you're boyfriend will be appreciative?" She teased.
"God, you're insufferable. I don't know if it's a good idea because I was thinking about buying tickets so we could go visit the island he's from, St Kitts and Nevis, sometimes he tells me great things about the place and the next he's telling me terrible things that happened there." I answered, "Should I buy the tickets? Or should I just settle with other presents?"
"Terrible things happen to people no matter where you live. Buy the tickets." Mary answered, "He can show you a bunch of stuff from his childhood you've never seen before, it'll be awesome for both of you. Now, the real question, Barbies or Hotwheels?" She said this last question in such seriousness that after a moment of staring at each other we burst out laughing.
Shopping went by relatively smoothly, and on the drive home I pulled up plane tickets on my phone and bought them, as well as deciding to go to eBay where I found a St Kitts and Nevis flag that I could overnight, he voiced such concern about living in a country he'd been in for less than a year without any family, his father lived somewhere in New York, but lord knows what that man is up to, and I wasn't even sure Alex considered him family anymore after what he did, cheating on his late mother and abandoning them while in debt and new to America. I wanted to find out about his culture and where he came from.
After we'd arrived home, Mary and I went to her bedroom with gifts we'd bought and some gift wrap, I also used her printer to print out the plane tickets to St Kitts and Nevis. I placed them into a box, "I just need to wait for the flag I ordered to arrive tomorrow and then I can wrap this one up. I just hope he likes it." I looked at Mary, "As I said, I really like him, and I think he likes me back. I tried to get a kiss this morning but he said we were too busy, probably cause I woke him up."
"Yeah? Well if I had a boyfriend and he woke me up, I'd be too busy for a kiss too." Mary chuckled, "I'm gonna get you two under the mistletoe on Christmas if it's the last thing I do."
"Normally you'd get a pillow to the face for that, but this time I actually want that to happen... You're lucky." I answered, chuckling a little bit.
I would make this a great Christmas, and end what was otherwise a crappy year on a good note for Alex.
{Alexander's POV}
Time had been running short, but I managed to scrounge together some gifts. I was using most of the little money I got to slowly pay back my large debts in a payment plan with the hospital, but I put a bit aside so that I could get Thomas something, I would've gotten stuff for his siblings too, but I'm poor as fuck, so that wasn't possible.
It was the night of Christmas Eve when I realized I needed to wrap his present still. Luckily Thomas was busy wrapping other last-minute gifts so I didn't have to pull away from him and pray he didn't wake up. I got up walked out, grabbing a box, wrapping paper, and some tape, before sneaking back into Thomas's room. I dug his gifts and a notebook out of my backpack, I quickly wrote a short but fancy note–fancy as in I pulled out my calligraphy skills–I folded the paper and placed it into the box I'd snatched at the bottom then added the gifts before wrapping it, and instead of using any of those sticker tags I just wrote on the wrapping with a black sharpie.
