I felt myself rising higher and higher. The wild dog, petrified by the blinding light, scampered back through the hedge into its part of the forest.
I should be scared. I'm so high up now, the forest was merely a carpet of green below me. I kept rising higher and higher. I wonder when I would stop.I am not scared, though. This feeling, this new, exotic feeling of flying, it was ..wonderful. Undescribable. But now I'm so high up, I wonder if I'd ever go back down.
I looked down and a lump of trepidation rose up my throat, threatening to choke me. As much as I loved the feeling, I've got to stop rising higher and higher. But how ?
Stop, I think in my head. I immediately came to a jerky halt, mid-air. I felt a smile tugging the sides of my mouth. I could control where I went. I could fly.
"I can fly," I said, not believing I really could. Sykes usually developed the ability to fly around the age of eighteen. I was eleven. How was flying possible for a Sykes my age?
The realization hit me like a hundred-pound sledgehammer. I was a part of the Darogarylia.
Darogarylias are specially chosen Darogarians. They are destined to aid the world in times of need, to take care of the wildlife and nature that many take for granted nowadays, and to make sure that anyone who was not a Darogarian does not know about Darogaria. Usually, Darogarylias were Sykes and Higgins. The Higgins Darogarlylia usually develop the ability to breathe underwater at the age of ten, instead of the usual age, fifteen.
Being a Darogarylia requires sheer hard work. And a DSB.
DSB. Darogarylia Specialised Ball. You usually find it when you find out that you're a Darogarylia. Apparently a flash of light will direct you to your DSB. Your DSB will tell you what to do, where and when you should help out., and many other things. Mum would be so proud. Nathan, too.
My heart sank as I thought about Nathan. His blue-green eyes clouded with worry, his confused look, me screaming at him..
I had to apologize to him.
