Okay, so now that the schoolyear has officially started, there are some newer faces (and older ones) that I need to re-introduce to you guys, just so you know who I'm talking about.
Trumpets:
Me- (obviously) This year, I am finally a section leader (and first part). I'm trying not to abuse that power, and not to be an absolute control freak during sectionals. Honestly, I think I'm doing alright.
Nathan K.- I know last year I said I hated him, but I've really grown to like this guy. I mean, not in a romantic way or anything (he's dating one of the flutes), but he just seems a lot like a brother to me. As a sophomore, he's playing first part this year, and has improved drastically since last season.
Allison- Last year I depicted this girl as a quiet, shyer friend of mine. The truth is, I only hung around her because she was my middle-school friend, and made me feel secure. Now, I don't really like her as much. For one thing, she's wheedled her way up into the top of my friend group. For another, she can kind of be a jerk, but no one else seems to notice. She also owns about four trumpets, yet doesn't try at ALL during band, and just expects first part to be handed to her. Like, Mr. J SPECIFICALLY told her to play second, yet she still went home and printed out first part. And what am I going to do about it as a section leader? Absolutely nothing. There's no way I could without permanently offending someone.
(Sorry guys, I just had to work one rant into this.)
Brandon- I still don't know much about Brandon this year. I mean, he's a junior now, so he's also on first part. He's a little on the quieter side, and still doesn't really talk directly to me a ton. But he stares at me. A lot. So.... I have my suspicions.
Zane- Surprisingly, he's the other section leader, despite actually making varsity football this year. He's not even allowed to preform with us or anything, so why Mr. J gave him the position is a mystery to me. Anyway, he hasn't changed much from last year. I mean, he's still a massive meme-lord. Oh yeah, he's also a junior and on second part.
Kyle- Honestly, Kyle should've been the other section leader. But honestly, that was his choice. This is his senior year, so he's a first part with me, and honestly, one of the only other first parts we can hear. He's pretty nice most of the time, but when he snaps, it can get a little ugly.
Evan- Okay, let me go on record by saying that he's a massive pain in the brass. He constantly brags about his seniority, (because hes a senior) but has done nothing to earn it. Like??? He brags about never practicing CONSTANTLY. And, the other day during morning practice, he had the AUDACITY to tell me he "didn't need his music" because he has it memorized. ExCUsE mE, but we've only been in school four weeks, and have only had band TWO of those four EVERY OTHER DAY! So, I do believe that you would have to be a professional to achieve that feat, and from the way you sound in practice, CLEARLY you are not...
(okay, so maybe two rants)
Ava- She's one of the most promising freshman we have. Like, I'm really disappointed that Mr. J put her on second part. Although mostly being part of the sporty crowd, she's pretty nice. Although, I think she's terrified of our section (Zane specifically)
Cole- He's our other promising freshman. He may not be the best, but he sure does put effort into everything. I also think he's afraid of our section, but I can guarantee he'll embrace it before the year is over.
Miles- So, I formerly knew them as Liza, but they changed their name and pronouns over the summer, so I will do my best to oblige. Not like that's a bad thing!! I am totally okay with it. The only thing I am not okay with is how they treat people. I don't know what it is about Miles, but they have a major problem with authority for some reason. A lot of people don't like them and I am trying my best to be nice, despite how much they disobey and are just generally rude.
Bella- This is Kyle's girlfriend, who just joined our section this year as a senior. To be honest, I really didn't like the idea of someone joining last minute, but she is just too nice to stay mad at. For a complete beginner, she is progressing pretty fast and I'm sad that she didn't join sooner.
Other Important People:
Anna: (Trombone section leader/Sophomore) Honestly, this girl is even worse than Allison. Like, she is such a jerk, especially about this whole COVID thing. Like, I don't care that you have a different political belief than me about masks, what I do care about is how rude she is to anyone who thinks differently. The problem? Everyone thinks we're friends. So, I have to oblige her, as per all of these awful unwritten social expectations.
(Okay, maybe three rants)
Isaac- He's our new drum major, and a junior trombone player. He's pretty nice, and I have a few classes with him other than music, so I may mention him quite a bit.
Jose- He's our other drum major (he was one last year as well). I guess the thing you guys might want to know about him is that he basically leads a cult. Like seriously though, it's called JoseLand. It's basically just a super exclusive friend group that does some strange things for fun. (they even have a logo and everything) The two stooges are a part of this group.
Noah- This is the main guy of the "two stooges" I've been talking about. He's in my grade, and plays trombone. He's a bit of a jerk, but still makes the quotes of the week quite frequently anyway.
Flint- This is the other stooge. He's not treated very nice by Noah, yet still hangs with him all the time. I honestly think Flint is funnier, but that could just be me. (He is also a sophomore trombonist)
Aaron- Yes, this is the guy I based Ahron from Phoenix-6 on. And yes, this is the guy I've been crushing on. I don't even know why I like him,I just... do. Sadly, he's a senior, so I only have about a year left with him. He plays tenor sax, by the way. (If you're a big Disney fan, then you might think this guy is basically a quieter version of Barley from Onward. Like, he even looks like him and everything)
Bryson- Yes, this is also a guy I may or may not like. I'm still a bit on the fence about it. And yes, he also plays tenor sax (as a freshman), at least during marching season. Normally he's a bass clarinet. The super crazy thing is that he reminds me of Ian from Onward. Literally everything about him though, too. So you can imagine my excitement seeing barley-look-alike mentor Ian-look-alike as he learns to play tenor. Their age gap is even about the same!!!
Alright, I know that was a long one, but if at any point during this year you have questions about who I'm writing updates about, you can come back to this post. Thanks for reading all of that!! I hope to get an actual "quotes of the week/stuff that happened" post out next weekend, because this week is going to be packed.
Love you guys!!
