"y/n, you're going to have to stop avoiding him someday," toby said, brushing a strand of hair from your face.
you sighed and glanced around the room, spotting fitz leaning against a wall, talking to ryan and mason.
"i know... i'm just too nervous," you admitted, tugging at your shirt.
she rolled her eyes, hands landing on your shoulders. "there's no reason to be. i don't know how many times i have to tell you before it sinks in."
ryan clapped his hands loudly, interrupting. "c'mon ladies, the room's ready!" he said, sliding his arms around your shoulders and toby's, trying to herd you toward the door.
"ryan, we can't all go in like this," you warned as he pulled you closer.
once you reached the entrance, he realized you were right and let you and toby go first.
you stepped into the room and accidentally bumped into someone. "i'm sorry," you yelped, looking up.
"it's okay," cam smiled.
you hadn't realized how much you missed him, his smile, his voice, his jokes. you tried not to grin, but a small smile escaped anyway. cameron gently tilted your face to look at him, and you froze, staring into each other's eyes. you wanted to pull away, but you didn't have the strength.
before he could say anything, mason shouted and threw a vest at you. "y/n, you need a vest!" he yelled, tossing another toward fitz.
you were playing laser tag for a misfits youtube video, ryan having reserved the arena in melbourne for four hours.
as the instructions ended, you glanced around to see cam walking toward you. instinctively, you darted to toby. "i'm in your group," you whispered.
she nodded. "we've got four people."
fitz frowned, disappointed he hadn't gotten you on his team. he trudged toward mason, matt, and mccreamy.
"i feel bad," you muttered to toby.
she rolled her eyes. "stop being a pussy and just tell him you like him."
"that's the problem... i don't like him," you confessed, watching her eyes widen in confusion. "i don't like him because... i love him."
her face lit up, and she pulled you into a short hug. neither of you spoke, both of you stunned that the truth had finally been said aloud.

it was the last round of the game, and you were first to move. "there's no one around, you can move," swagger murmured. you sprinted carefully, spotting cameron turning a corner, but you didn't want to confront him just yet.
following cautiously, you saw mason trailing behind cam. you stepped softly and tagged mason's vest, making him shriek.
"shh!" you hissed, hoping cam hadn't heard. but he had.
everything froze when your eyes met cameron's. you forgot everything, the game, your team, your mission, until mason shouted, "get her, fitz! what are you doing just staring at her?!"
you covered your vest sensor and ran, weaving through corners. "where can i go... where can i go..." you muttered to yourself, peeking around walls for cover.
someone fell in the middle of the room. you crouched beside them. "you okay?"
it was mccreamy. he nodded and pointed at his vest. "here, shoot me."
you hesitated, unsure if you could trust him, but moved closer. he shot you anyway. "sorry, y/n... had to take advantage, but thanks for checking."
curse words flew from your mouth as you sprinted to the nearest wall. clumsily, you ran into someone, he pinned you gently against the wall.
"you okay?"
you opened your eyes. cameron. both his hands were on the wall, framing you.
"i'm fine," you whispered, locking eyes with him.
"what is it, y/n? tell me." his voice was soft but insistent.
"i can't," you murmured. before either of you could say more, the lights came on. "c'mon everyone, time to see who won!" ryan yelled.
you ducked under cam's arm and sprinted to the scoreboard.
"team 420 won!" swagger shouted, hugging you, toby, and ryan.
ryan grinned. "congrats, guys! everyone go do whatever you want, we leave in an hour." everyone scattered to the arcade room like kids.
breathing heavily, you tapped swagger's shoulder. "i'm going to step outside for some air."
he nodded, and you pushed the door open, letting the cool breeze wash over you.
after a few quiet minutes, you heard cam's voice. turning, you saw him walking toward you. you knew you couldn't escape this time.
he pulled you aside, his voice low and tinged with sadness. "why are you avoiding me?"
you looked down, sighing as his hand caressed your cheek. "because... i love you, and i was too afraid to tell you."
he lifted your chin gently, smiling. "i love you too."
