it had been nearly two years since you got out of that toxic relationship. the signs had been right in front of you the whole time, you'd just ignored them. the lies, the constant drama, the way he made a fool out of you whenever he could... you'd tried so hard to help him change, to make it work, but it never did. and somewhere along the way, you'd been ready to give up on love entirely.
when it ended, your best friends were there to catch you. ryan was first, of course, insisting you leave the house you shared with your ex immediately and book a flight to move in with them. they even "officially" welcomed you onto the team, though the jokes about you being the "secret member" had been around long before that.
you remembered joking before dating your ex that one day you'd move in with them without asking, and now, you didn't have to feel guilty about it at all. that same day you left your old life behind, you arrived at the misfits' house, a suitcase in hand and hope tucked in your chest.
the days that followed were a blur of streaming, making content together, laughing until your cheeks hurt, and rediscovering what it felt like to feel alive. in the back of your mind, there had been thoughts of a fling here or there, just to distract yourself, but you knew you didn't want that. flings never stayed flings, and your heart wasn't ready for anything half-baked. you reminded yourself to slow down, love didn't need to be rushed.
fitz had always been a constant. he was the first to tell you to leave your toxic ex, the first to show up whenever you needed someone, the one person who stayed consistent even when you didn't listen. he'd fly in, crash at a hotel, and make sure you weren't alone. but that had been two years ago. now... now, life had improved, and so had you.

you were curled up on the couch, netflix running quietly, cameron beside you in one of those lazy, comfortable silences. it felt like home. but your chest was buzzing—nervous, excited, impatient. finally, you decided you couldn't keep it in anymore.
"cameron..." your voice barely above a whisper, but enough to make him turn.
he tilted his head, curious. "hm?"
you twisted your fingers together nervously. "i... i have feelings for you."
a small, playful smirk appeared on his face. "i have feelings for you too, y/n."
you exhaled a breath you didn't know you were holding. finally.
he reached over, fingers brushing a loose strand of hair behind your ear. "i know you've been hurt... these past two years, being single... everyone in the house knows you've been working on yourself. your streams, your content, even your following—it's all growing, and i've seen you become... well, you."
your stomach flipped, nerves buzzing. was he going to take this back?
he leaned closer, tilting your face up gently. "i'm proud of you."
your cheeks burned pink. it was true—you'd fought hard to stand on your own two feet, to take control of your life. yet somewhere along the way, your feelings for cameron had grown. before your ex, you'd been drawn to him, but now, living in the house, watching him pop in constantly, teasing, laughing, flirting... it had been impossible not to.
he tugged at the strings of his hoodie, the one you'd "borrowed" without asking. "if you're not ready for a relationship, you have to tell me, okay?"
"i am ready," you blurted out.
he raised an eyebrow, skeptical. "are you sure?"
"cameron, i promise. it's been two years. i'm ready." you reached over and slapped his hands away from the hoodie strings.
"ow!" he whined, pouting slightly.
"listen, i know i've been through a lot... things i don't ever want to repeat. but you—you—make everything feel different." your hand reached for his, and you laced your fingers together. "i'll never forget when we'd go out and joke about calling it a date. even if they weren't official, they felt like dates. i've always been happy to see you."
he interlocked his fingers with yours, his thumb brushing your hand. "my heart still skips a beat when i see you. i get butterflies, like literally. and i've always had them, even before... before your ex."
"i promise, i am ready," you whispered, your voice soft but certain.
he leaned in, a teasing smirk playing on his lips as he kissed the back of your hand. "now i finally get my chance. and i'm not going to mess it up."
when his lips finally met yours, the world fell away. finally, something you'd been craving for so long. something you'd thought you'd never have.
you didn't want it to end.
"finally!" a deep voice clapped loudly, pulling you from the kiss.
you broke apart to see swagger, grinning like a fool, followed by ryan, mason, and the rest of the group lounging in your doorway.
"about time you told her you liked her! y/n, you wouldn't believe how much he talks about you," ryan teased as he strolled in.
mason flopped dramatically onto your bed, and soon enough, everyone else had claimed a spot, ready to watch a movie with you.
cameron leaned into you, a soft smile on his face. "i believe you," he whispered.
you rested your head against his chest, arms curling around him, thinking that maybe, just maybe, love wasn't so impossible after all.
