Sage
"So you were on your way to Kallihan" I muttered to myself. Axel was right. It wasn't just a rumour.
Did he even know about any of this? Of Course he did. His brother's been taken. Just thinking of him angered me. Not because of what he said or did. The witches. They got inside my head. They used Axel to get inside my head and I dropped my guard without thinking twice because that's how much he affects me and that's how much control he has over me no matter how much I keep trying to tell myself otherwise.
"I was on my way to Wallough" he corrected, pulling me out of my thoughts "After the witch massacre the land lay barren for years so I decided to claim it…"
"Claim it?" what is he from the mediaeval period?
" We needed to keep the witches in check. So the only way to do that was to cut them out from their power source...or in this case their ancestral ground"
"That worked out well for us" an ironic laugh slipped through.
"Hmm..so anyway long story short. I got ambushed on my way in and I've been rotting in this hell hole for I don't know how long" he scoffed.
"Yeah, that's what happened to us too. We heard about some witch movement near Mabery. We're not exactly in Wallough are we?" I mentally cursed myself for deciding to come along with them to Mabery. I could have just stayed at home or gone with Nathaniel to Cohen.
"We can't be. Wallough is inhabited by vampires and humans. My people. We're probably on the outskirts" his voice was so certain but my mind was swirling back to Axel everytime this man spoke. I can't even imagine what his reaction would be if he actually comes face to face with him.
"I don't understand. Why did they drag me down here?" I shook my head.
"Pretty sure I heard them blab about some dark magic…"
"Yes, so I've been hearing" I was so annoyed with this. What dark magic? Pure bloods were made from dark magic, all of us had it in us. So why me? "What are we going to do?" I mumbled.
"We wait" he breathed out.
Wait. We didn't really have much of a choice. So it was either Axel or Ethan breaking us out. Or these damn witches completing whatever damn spell they were about to do.
"Never thought the day would come when witches would have vampires locked in basements" I mumbled.
"We clearly overestimated ourselves" his voice was so weak but it still dripped with disgust.
"So did you hear them blabbing about when they're going to execute this masterplan of theirs?"
"I think their master plan is already in play, Sage" he let out a sigh.
"I mean the spell"
"They need all the pure bloods together" he cleared his throat "So I think we're safe for now since your boyfriend hasn't shown up yet"
My eyes widened at the sound of that.
"How di.."
"I didn't. I heard rumours about the two of you but the look on your face when you met me confirmed it" he chuckled.
"I didn't mean that..."
"You're squashed up in the corner there like I'm about to eat you" by the tone of his voice I could tell he was probably rolling his eyes in the dark there. But he wasn't wrong. I did want to distance myself from him. I don't know why. For Axel? Maybe. It just felt like the right thing to do.
