the next week went by in a blur, taehyung gathered the courage to text her first after their unexpected meeting at jimin's bakery, and rumi couldn't have been more glad, because there was no way she would've reached out first.
they've been texting back and forth, flirting occasionally, but keeping the conversations fairly basic, they both knew that they were interested in each other but there's always the 'maybe they're just being nice', 'what if this is just how they talk', the maybe's and what if's ruined many chances for them to connect further just like anyone else in the dating world.
rumi was helping celeste with her date outfit in the middle of the week when taehyung asked her if they could meet on sunday for the promised cup of coffee, and you bet that rumi fell off her bed while celeste laughed her ass off, rumi obviously agreed to it and now here she was, in front of the cozy flower shop where she first met him, she walked in to see him, a plain apron tied around his tiny waist, his back turned to her, she noticed he had earbuds on and she took careful steps to the counter.
she snuck up and yelled a loud 'boo' right next to his ear, while shaking his shoulders, startling poor taehyung, the earphone falling out of his right ear as he looked around to see rumi beaming at him with a huge smile on her face. he put a hand to his chest as he calmed down, removing the other earphone while quietly laughing to himself, he normally would be embarrassed but she looked so happy, that all he felt was content in seeing her smile.
when he turned around, she noticed he had black-rimmed glasses on his face, something she'd never seen on him before and she had to admit, he looked even more dashing with that simple accessory adorning his face.
how much more attractive can you get?
"is that how polite you usually are?" he mocked her, teasingly and she shrugged her shoulders, her eye smile ever-present since she kept getting flashbacks to his frightened face, slightly scolding herself for not being able to take a picture.
"maybe, do you have a problem with it?" she raised her eyebrows, settling herself on the chair in front of the counter, he cocked his eyebrow before leaning forward, his face now almost directly in front of hers, the close proximity of their faces left her flushed and giddy.
"i think i do" he whispered and she scoffed, moving away from his face, it worked as both a dramatic reaction and a way to breathe air again, because there was no way she could breathe properly with him that close to her.
"then deal with it, because that's a 'you' problem," she said, sticking her tongue out at him which made him laugh even more.
"give me 2 minutes, i'll wrap everything up and then we can go to the cafe across the street" he turned around once again, untying his apron, giving her a nice view of his broad back, she admired his sense of style, simple autumn colors which were very classy and sophisticated when he wore them, she tried not to droll as she noticed his arm muscles flexing under his thin dress shirt, so she distracted herself from him by glancing around the shop.
she noticed he had changed the front flowers to daffodils, usually, he had tulips or roses which were lovely, but the bright yellow daffodils were a fresh change, they made the entire shop look even more welcoming.
"you changed the tulips" she voiced out her thoughts, glancing back at him after making that observation, and he looked at the flowers placed in the front, a faint smile grew on his face before he returned to arrange things at the counter.
"i'm glad you noticed rumi, those daffodils only came in yesterday and i thought they're more fitting now, what do you think?" the way he said her name left raging butterflies in her stomach and she tried to hide how much he affected her with just saying her name.
"they look beautiful taehyung, much like the owner if you ask me, what is their meaning by the way?" she hid her not-so-subtle compliment to him with a question, her compliment made him blush, really hard, he prayed that she couldn't see his red ears as he pretended to aggressively wipe the counter.
"how about you do a little research and tell me the meaning the next time we meet?" he suggested, trying to play cool and she smirked, liking the slight challenge in his tone.
"we've not yet started our first date and you're already thinking of the next one, i'm very impressed flower boy" she teased him and he chuckled, a huge smile adorned on his face as he turned back to see her face.
"can you blame me? it's quite hard not to think of the next time when you come in looking this pretty" his compliment didn't help the already sick-in-a-good-way feeling in her stomach, and she blushed, looking down, he got around the counter, slipping off his glasses and placing them on the surface.
he stretched his hand out to her and she happily took it, surprisingly, even if it was their first date, they felt utterly comfortable in each other's presence, sure they were still a mystery to one another but they still felt like they could just be themselves, taehyung's hands felt very warm and they enveloped her's perfectly.
rumi leaned back to grab taehyung's glasses and slowly slid them back onto his face, he looked at her in confusion.
"i hope you don't mind, they just look ridiculously good on you" she said with a light dust of blush layering her cheeks before she turned around to make sure he didn't see her flushed face and pulled him out of the shop, taehyung followed her with a silly grin.
they both slowly walked to the cafe across the street, intertwined hands swaying slightly as they made small talk about work and their friends, the sun was forgiving, shining not too brightly, clouds blocking most of the light, the wind was blowing and it wouldn't be a surprise if it rained.
on entering the cafe, they ordered their favorite drinks, taehyung ordering his usual strawberry iced tea and rumi ordering her beloved passionfruit boba tea.
"are you, by any chance, into unsolved mysteries?" rumi raised her eyebrows, pleased with the question while sipping her drink and she nodded making taehyung sigh in relief.
"thank god, i would've looked not too good if you didn't" he chuckled nervously making her giggle in return.
"i watch BuzzFeed Unsolved whenever i'm bored"
"no way, that's what i do too" taehyung gasped dramatically and she smiled.
"maybe we could have a marathon together one day, it's been a while since i've caught up" she shrugged her shoulders while saying this, even though, her heart did pirouettes at the idea of being snuggled against him on a couch, a thin blanket-
she shook her head, she was getting way too ahead of herself, 'don't get too attached' she reminded herself but the thing was, she was already enamored with the man in front of her, never finding anyone else this fascinating but she had to stop herself from making future plans so soon.
"i'm sorry, i'm getting ahead of myself and i'm sure it made you uncomfortable" she spoke in a low, embarrassed tone while fiddling with her fingers and taehyung gave her a soft smile before holding one of her hands with his own.
"i would love that, rumi" he assured her and she sighed in relief while smiling up at him, tightening her hand around his.
"ok anyway, are you, by any chance, into art taehyung?"
