Bucky Barnes X Reader

Warnings: language. It's a sad chapter, I cried when I wrote it and then again when editing it so I suggest you grab some tissues.

"Hey Steve?" Bucky asked. Steve turned to look at him. Bucky hadn't been sleeping, it'd been a few months since he got his memories back and there was one thing on his mind. One thing that he didn't know how to ask and Steve didn't know how to bring up. So the topic hung like a noose in the air, trying to talk about the subject felt like walking to your death. But Bucky had to know.

"What's wrong Buck?" Steve asked. Bucky sat down on the couch next to him.

"You remember (Y/N)" he began, taking a breath and choosing his next words carefully so as not to upset himself.

"How could I forget, you two were inseparable" Steve breathed out. Bucky knew she was dead, she had to be otherwise the topic wouldn't feel so wrong, so morbid. Steve would've taken him to her.

"When did she um- where did they-" every question he tired to ask got stuck in his throat. Picking the first one Steve replied.

"Two years ago, I'm sorry Bucky. I should've told you sooner" Steve gave his friend a sympathetic look.

"No, no that's" he cleared his throat "it's alright. Did she have any family?" He asked, He wanted to know she was alright. That she'd turned out okay. That her life had gone on without him.

"A daughter, adopted. She never met anyone else." Steve clarified.

"Do you think we can- can we find her? I was just wondering, she'd know about (Y/N) and-" keeping his emotions in check was proving to be difficult, but he was managing.

"Yeah" Steve answered. The two of them parted ways, Steve to try and locate (Y/N)'s daughter and Bucky to go think.

Did he even want to know what had become of you, what if something terrible had happened and he wasn't there to protect you. He put the matter to one side.

Weeks went by before anything was said or done about the it.

Until eventually Steve dragged Bucky down to Brooklyn without explanation, they were stood outside what used to be their old apartment. Of course it had been renovated and redone, but it was still in the same place, with the same address.

"I found her. Should've known (Y/N) would move into this dump after we weren't around. Her kid kept the house" Steve explained as he walked to the front door, Bucky hesitantly followed behind.

Three firm knocks were placed on the door and the odd crashing sound came from inside, before the door was pulled open revealing a tall, slim, brunette. She had a smile on her face, the same kind of smile (Y/N) wore, a smile of happiness even in the most stressful times.

The woman may have been (Y/N)'s adopted daughter, but they shared a number of tendancy's. The way she leant her weight against the door frame and eyed the men. The way her finger tapped lightly against the wooden entry way in anticipation.

"You're Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes" she said after a moment.

"Sorry to disturb you ma'am-" Steve began, but was interrupted by the girl. Bucky couldn't help but think that (Y/N) would've done that same thing.

"Lilith, please call me Lilith. I don't understand, why are you here?" It was Bucky's turn to speak now.

"I- We knew your mum" he wished he'd sounded more confident, but he couldn't. Being here, seeing the likenesses of (Y/N) in Lilith, it was all a bit much.
