Steve Rogers X Reader

One of two Halloween specials for you all. Happy Halloween!

Warnings: it's meant to be a little confusing/ trippy. The chapters meant to come across as a little unsettling. I really enjoyed writing this one so I hope you like it.

Morning Buck

Morning Bucky

"Morning Bucky" (Y/N) entered the kitchen, reciting the words she'd fought to get right. Something was strange today, the air settled differently.

"Hey (Y/N)" the words seeped into her head like an echo. (Y/N).

(Y/N)

Who was (Y/N)

"(Y/N)?" Buckys voice broke through, she turned her head.

"Yes?" She hummed, she was (Y/N). Yes that was her, what was wrong here? What was out of place.

"Are you okay?" He asked tentatively. She nodded and reached for a mug to fill with coffee.

"Yeah, yes. My head's just- yeah I'm fine, good. I'm good" Bucky settled back into his seat. When had he gotten up?

"I was watching the news this morning, Tony's planning a party again" the idle chitchat barely registered.

Steve

Steve, who's Steve

Does Steve know? Is Steve coming?

"Oh is Steve coming?" Buckys chair scrapped along the floor, he was by her side again, one hand placed on her arm as he peered down into her (E/C) eyes.

"Are you sure you're alright?" He asked, his eyebrows furrowed.

Steve?

Friend?

Boyfriend?

Husband.

"Yes, I'm fine- good. Is- why do you" time seemed to rewind as she forgot her sentence. What had Bucky said? The party- Tony's party "is Steve going? To the party, there's a party"

"(Y/N) Steve's been dead for three years, are you sure you're okay?" Bucky asked again.

(Y/N), she was (Y/N)

Steve is, was, is her husband.

Dead.

Dead.

Steve's dead?

It felt as if a flurry of punches knocked her back as she stumbled out of Bucky's arms. He called out to her, no, not him- Steve.

A kick to her side brought her back to her surroundings. A battlefield, voices, people. Teammates.

"(Y/N) watch out!" Steve yelled. She ducked, her attacker knocked to the ground by the shield that skidded past her head. It bounced back into Steve's arms as he jogged over to help her up.

"Steve" she half whispered as he pulled her from the ground.

"Are you okay?" He asked, the battle still raging on.

"No- yes- I was, I was just in the kitchen- with Bucky" she said, Steve looked at her confused.

"We haven't found Bucky yet" Steve's voice was his, yet not. Distant, like it didn't belong.

"(Y/N)?" He asked, she met his gaze "are you alright, we need everyone focused for this" Steve asked, panic lacing his voice.

"I'm fine" she said dismissively as she brushed his hand from her face. Looking around she took in the battle for the first time, properly.

A gun shot

This is it

"STEVE WATCH OUT!" she yelled, he crumped to the floor. She knelt next to him.

Dead

Dead.

Steve was, is, was dead.

Tears fell from her eyes as she looked over his body. She raised her head to see a woman. Herself, standing over him. She locked eyes with (Y/N)'s ones, but they were cold, lifeless.

"Do it over, get it right this time" (Y/N)'s voice was distant and then she was gone.

Morning Buck

Morning Bucky

"Morning Bucky" (Y/N) entered the kitchen,

The kitchen, she was in the kitchen.

Something was strange today, the air settled differently.

Who was (Y/N)?

Steve was.

"Are you okay?" He asked tentatively. She nodded and reached for a mug to fill with coffee.

"Yeah, yes. My head's just- yeah I'm fine, good. I'm good" Bucky settled back into his seat. When had he gotten up?

Tony- a party

Steve

"Tony's having a party" Bucky looked up at her from where he was sitting as she spoke.

"Yeah, yeah I was gonna say" he hummed.

"Is Steve going?" She asked.

Buckys hand clasped her arm, he'd asked something. When had he moved form his seat?

"Is Steve-" her words cut short.

"Steve's been dead for three years"

The fight, she was back again. Moments were fleeting, moving as if they were nothing.

Steve pulled her from the floor, words spilled from his mouth but she couldn't make them out.

A gunfire.

Get it right this time

She turned, shot through the chest.

Get it right this time

Morning Buck

Morning Bucky

The kitchen

Steve, dead, no she was, no

"Steve's been dead for three years"

The battlefield

Get it right this time

She aimed her gun over Steve shoulder and fired, a thud. The attacker fell dead to the floor.

Steve turned to her, a cold, distant look in his eyes.

"What did you do that for, we're already dead?" he hummed with a sinister smile.

(Y/N) shot up in bed, panting heavily. Steve placed a hand on her arm to calm her.

"What's wrong?" He asked with urgency.

"I was, and you were- dead. And the kitchen and Bucky and"

"Bucky?" Steve asked "is he okay?"

"Yes, he's-" she took a breath coming to her surroundings "he's next door Steve" she said.

A bang from somewhere next to her, Steve fell limp at her side. A man with a bat in his hand and-
