He opened the door for me and this time I said thank you. We were both taken aback as we stepped outside because we didn't notice it started to rain and to say that the place has glass walls is ironic. We did not even talk that much but how come we haven't paid attention to the outside?
"Let me walk you to your car," he said
"It's okay, I got it from here"
"Please?" He begged but there's nothing that can change my mind.
"Excuse me for a second," I said and went to the guard to borrow an umbrella which they provide for customers who haven't anticipated the rain on the condition that you return it after. Of course, anything that we borrow should be returned so you can opt to give it back to the guard stationed at the exit of the parking lot or bring it with you the next time you come back to the restaurant.
"There's only one umbrella you can have it," I said giving him the umbrella
"No, you have it," he said and pushed it back to me.
"It's okay, you can go first I'll wait for the rain to stop"
"Not happening," he said and stands beside me. Obviously, I didn't bring my car with me since Mang Ed was the one to take us to the hospital and going back home just to get my car is so much of a hassle so I only took a cab from the restaurant to here but I don't plan on telling him that. I am not the kind of person to assume but I'm sure he'll offer to give me a ride and that's what I'm trying to avoid of all things because I'm never good at rejecting those kinds of generosity. We stood there for almost half an hour but the rain appears to get stronger and not planning to stop any time soon.
"I guess I'll walk you to your car instead, "
"What?" He asked in astonishment
"You heard me I'll walk you to your car"
"Are you sure?" He looked at me with a curious look in his face
"Yes. Its already five minutes before 7 pm and we are just gonna waste our time here waiting for nothing that we aren't sure of."
"Why don't you just have the umbrella. I'll run my way to where my car is parked"
"That's absurd! With this rain? I know you want to be a gentleman but I'm more of a practical person we both need the umbrella. So either we go now or we keep on waiting here forever"
"Well that's not bad" he smirked.
"I'm amazed you can still joke around"
"Well because you look cute when you talk candidly, I might as well argue with you every time"
"Tsk! Let's go" I said and open the umbrella for us.
"I'll take that he said" and took the umbrella from my hand. Well, I think that's better because he's taller than me and it would be a struggle to support him from behind.
"I started to walk first and to my surprise, he pulled me closer beside him"
"What are you doing?" I asked
"You said you are a practical person right?" I nod " well I am too and I think it's better for the both of us to stay like this" he put his arm around my shoulder and I'm a bit stunned but I guess it's realistic it's not like the umbrella can cover the both of us if we walk one foot apart.
"Let's go?" He said smiling and led the way. The heavy drops of rain damped my left shoulder and right shoulder for him as we make our way to his car. Why did I have to offer to walk him to his car again? I could have just insisted on him taking the umbrella or I could have just told him I didn't bring my car with me. I had to wake myself up because it seems like I'm getting fond of the feeling. It feels warm to be in this condition. Rachel Leslie Reyes! What's going on to that mind of yours?
"Goodbye. I'll see you tomorrow?" He shouted as he enters his car.
"Bye" was my only answer and closed the door. I didn't wait for him to start the car I turned my back around retracing my steps back to the entrance.
The rain is pouring more heavily now. I went back inside the diner to talk to someone before I stepped outside again. Why does it have to rain so hard now? When I have not used my car to work this morning. Urgh!
I tap my shoes while waiting for the cab I booked earlier and I'm sure that I clearly said 7:30 pm. I suddenly remembered that I forgot to reply to Dee's message earlier. We were texting each other when my dinner date arrived that I had to put my phone back to my bag I feel like it was disturbing him even when I put it face down under the table because he keeps staring at it.
My flashback has been invaded by a call somewhere. I only realized after the third ring that it was my phone that is ringing. I looked at the caller ID and it was Flute. What does he need now?
"Yes?" No need for hello's we were just together.
" Please tell me You are not waiting for a cab there are you?"
"What? How di-"
"You heard me. Why do I need to get a call from Daphne to know that you did not bring your car with you?!"
"She called you? What for?"
"That's not the point right now. I'm on my way back"
"No need. My cab is almost here"
"Cancel it," he said in a stern voice
"Why would I? No! Can you please just go your way. You don't have to come back here"
"I said cancel it, I am not having any of this. Stay right there! I'm on my way" sometimes I don't know if Dee's timing is in the right place but at the wrong time or at the wrong time but at the right place. Tss! I guess I have to make a cancellation for now. I'm still gonna pay the cab driver though, I would feel bad wasting his time for nothing, I'm glad payment methods could be done contactless now.
