I tried my best to make Niall feel welcome at my boring party but he just didn't seem or be having much fun. I had introduced him to a few people, most of them had kept their mouths shut about him being famous which made my life way easier.
"I'm sorry, I'd forgotten how boring these parties are. My dad basically just uses them as an excuse to get the family together," I told Niall. He was stood by the island in the kitchen drinking a glass of water. I was thankful that everyone was in the living room so we had the kitchen to ourselves.
"What do you mean boring? I'm having the time of my life," he joked. I laughed and rested my head on his chest. I heard his glass get put down on the counter top and quickly after his arms were wrapped around me. I shut my eyes and all the muffled voices of people disappeared.
"You know, I can't believe you have to go through this every year," Niall said. His chest vibrated when he spoke and it made me giggle. I tilt my head up to look at him.
"You get used to it. Most of the time my grandma keeps me going through it. I haven't seen her yet though," I told him.
As soon as the words came out my mouth, my grandma's voice echoed through the kitchen.
"There you are my darling. I've been looking everywhere for you," she said loudly. She completely ignored Niall as she approached me and practically pulled me off him and onto her. Despite her age, she was still very energetic.
"Look at you, what a beautiful young woman your turning into," I smiled, "And who is this?" she looked at Niall for the first time since she'd entered the kitchen.
"Grandma, this is Niall. Niall this is my grandma, Ruth," I told them both.
"So your the boyfriend Liv was telling me about," my grandma assumed.
"Ummm..." Niall said. He looked at me for help.
"Yeah, sure, I guess he's my boyfriend, right?" I asked the last bit to Niall.
He nodded and smiled at my grandma. She beamed back at him and couldn't hold herself back from hugging him. When she pulled away she tapped my shoulder and said, "I'll leave you love birds alone. See you at cake time," and walked away into the living room to join my dad and the rest of my family.
Not long after my grandma left, Carol walked in to the kitchen. She looked beautiful in her yellow, floral dress and wavy hair.
"Your dad wondered if you wanted to open a few presents now. It doesn't have to be all of them, just a couple so everyone can see," she said.
"Yeah OK," I said. She walked out and I followed shortly after with Niall at my side.
Just before we entered the living room where everyone was I stopped. Niall looked at me. The hallway was dark and I couldnt see his face properly but I knew his piercing blue eyes were staring right at my face.
I don't know why but I had the sudden erge to kiss him, so I did. And he went with it.
Niall hands were cold on my warm shoulders and it made me crave him even more. I wanted to ditch presents and just kiss him. But I couldn't do that to everyone. Eventually I made myself pull my lips off his and I ran my fingers through my hair a few times.
"I love you," Niall whispered just loud enough for me to hear as we walked hand in hand into the living room.
"I know, I love you," I replied just before I sat down in the space between my dad and my grandma. I watched Niall as he stayed standing at the back of the room. He winked at me and I smiled. I loved him so much.
