I had ended up opening all my presents, it was the best part of the party after all. My grandma had made me a batch of her signature brownies just like every year and I'd already eaten 3 of them. My dad and Carol had dissappeared somewhere, I guessed they were sorting the cake out because it always came after the presents.

I stood up from my space on the sofa and brushed my lap. Niall's eyes were focused on his phone, his fingers moving across the keyboard.

I'm busy right now, just tell Simon that.

I felt rude reading Niall's text but I couldn't help myself.

"What's up?" I asked him. He had been so focused on his phone that he hadn't noticed me so my voice made him jump.

"Simon wants us to start working on a new album. We never get a break for long," he sighs.

"Wait, Liv told me not long ago that you've only just released an album. Surely you can have a bit of time off," I said confused.

"Yeah we released our 3rd album last November. We all want a bit of a holiday but we aren't allowed. Thats just how it works."

"Well that's not fair."

"Your right, it's not." Niall said. His index finger lift my chin up and plants a small kiss on my lips. I can't help but smile. I kiss him back and pray that we don't get interuped by some cousin of mine.

Suddenly the lights turn off and Niall and I are left sitting on the sofa in the dark. I hear my dad's voice starting to sing happy birthday from the door. Everyone else joins in, including Niall who makes it sound 100x better, and Carol walked in with my cake. It was a 2 tier cake, both covered in blue butter cream with large 20 candles on the top.

"Make a wish!" everyone said. I shut my eyes and blew out my candles, wishing the same thing I do every year, to live a long and happy life. I open my eyes and everyone starts clapping. Someone turns the lights on which caused my 8 year old niece, Cara, to come running over to me. She was my step sisters daughter. My step sister wasn't massive part of my life growing up since we didn't share the share the same dad. I saw her for the first time at my mums funeral and then again 9 years later. We'd gotten close the past 3 years and despite her not having the same dad as me, he still treated her like his family.

"Auntie Lily, can I have some cake?" she asked in an innocent voice. Her large eyes stared at me hopefully.

"Of course, here," I said and cut a piece for her. I grabbed a napkin from the coffee table and handed the cake to her on it. After that, Carol cut pieces of cake and handed them out to everyone. The top tier was chocolate and the bottem was red velvet, my favourite. My grandma had 2 pieces of chocolate and 1 piece of red velvet. She would've finished the whole cake if she had the chance.

After the cake people started leaving and I was forced to say goodbye to everyone. My grandma was the last to leave, she always was, and she made sure she said goodbye to me properly.

"I should probably leave now before your dad kicks me out," she joked and I pulled her in for a hug. She lived about 4 and a half hours away from me so I didn't see her that often.

She rubbed and patted my back slightly before breaking away from the hug.

"Don't go breaking her heart now otherwise you'll have me to deal with," she said to Niall in a serious voice. She tried to keep a straight face but in the end she ended up hugging him to. She pulled away from Niall quicker than she had with me but I don't think he minded.

"OK my darling, take care," she said and hugged me once more. I never got tired of her hugs. They reminded me of my mum's hugs even though she was from my dad's side of the family.

"You to Grams," I said as I pulled away from her.

She grabbed her pink trench coat off the chair by the door and stepped outside.

"Have a safe drive," I said as I waved. When she reached her car she blew a kiss to me just before getting in. I watched as she drove away and sighed.

"I've gotta be honest with you, I'm glad that's over," I said quietly so my dad wouldn't hear. I leaned into Niall and his arms secured around me making me feel safe.

"Are you leaving aswell?" I asked into his chest. I didn't want him to go but I also didn't want him to get in trouble because of me.

"I wish I didn't need to but I have to," he said and kissed the top of my head. I sighed again and pulled away, his arms falling back down by his sides.

"I don't like Simon," I complained while walking to sit down on a chair in the corner of the room. Niall didn't reply, he just pulled his white trainers. I stood up and walked back over to him just as he finished pulling the second one on.

"I love you," he said and kissed me. I hooked my arms round his neck and shut my eyes making the most of his lips on mine. It still didn't make sense to me of why he loved me but I didn't question it to much.

"Hey," he said through kisses, "My phone is ringing."

I took my arms away from around his neck and took a step back allowing him to reach into his pocket to retrieve his phone. I hadn't even heard it ringing until he had mentioned it.

"What?" he said blankly into the phone.

"I'm at Lily's," his voice was annoyed, "Chill I was just about to leave."

I looked at him but he wouldn't make eye contact.

"OK. I won't be long. Bye," he said and pulled his phone away from his ear.

"Who was that?" I asked.

"Zayn. I'm really sorry I need to go," he said and opened the door.

"Oh ok. I love you," I said but he was already driving away.
