This isn't necessarily a rule, per se. It's just the result. It's the ultimate goal of the background friend.

Freedom looks different for different people, depending on the part of your life that makes you feel like a background person.

It might mean transitioning away from a job where you are overworked and underappreciated.

It might mean seeking friendships with new people, based on more genuine connections.

It could mean letting go of a painful relationship, where your needs have always taken a backseat to those of your partner.

Whatever finding freedom means to you, please know that it exists. You can find it. You can find people who value you, and a lifestyle that fulfills you. It won't always look the way you expected. Compromises in life are unavoidable. But, you don't have to settle for less than you deserve... being the leading role in your very own life.
