"I can't believe it's the first of December." Makoto notes beside me. "We've has a crazy few months."
"I know. I just Hope December doesn't bring any more murderers to our doorstep."
Makoto squeezes my arm.
"It's Christmas! Christmas is my favourite time of the year." He squeals, running ahead. The park is deserted, with just us amidst the swirling fog that covers everything like a blanket. The wind makes whirlwinds in the fog, and a dire drops of rain stain the grass every few minutes.
"It's not Christmas yet!" I yell after him. "It's only the 1st of December."
The fog stays undisturbed.
"Makoto! Makoto?" I pad forwards, the frost-flicked grass crunching under my shoes. My breathing starts to speed up. Is that...
No.
Junko's figure, standing in the fog, two fingers pointed at me like a gun. She winks and clicks her tongue.
Bang.
I start walking backwards, heart pounding. Then running. I start to run, but someone grabs my hand.
"Byakuya! Where are you going?!" He sees my face. "Are you ok?"
"I-I thought I saw Junko. In the fog." I whisper.
"She's gone." He kisses my frozen, pink with the cold cheek. "Everything is ok."
"You're right." I push my hands through his hair. "And it is almost Christmas."
"Christmas! Presents, Trees, snowmen,snow..." A perfect little snowflake lands on his nose. "Snow!"
The sky erupts with snowflakes, a wonderful white blur cascading onto the park. Within seconds, the floor is covered in a white blanket and our hair is threaded with snowflakes.
"Woohoo! It's snowing!" Yells Makoto, kicking up huge flurries of white. "Let's make snow angels!"
He pulls me to the ground, and we wildly wave our limbs, the snow icy on my back and a huge grin across my face.
"I love you so much!" Makoto squeals, kissing me.
"I love you too."
