Malfoy's Paper
Days have passed and Hermione's still petrified.
I decide to go and visit her by myself, in case I cried. I didn't want anyone to see me cry again. It just draws too much attention to myself.
I walk down the corridors, and stop at the hospital wing. I look around to make sure no one's coming, and once I see that the coast is clear I walk through the doors.
When I walk in though, I do see someone. They're standing by Hermione, but they don't notice me walk in so I hide behind one of the curtains by the beds.
I keep glancing through the curtain to see whoever this person is. This person doesn't look like a nurse though, they look like a student. The student looks like they have blond hair, but I'm still not sure who it is.
"Hopefully your little friends find this since a muggle like yourself couldn't figure it out." The student says. A boy, no doubt. He sounds a lot like... oh gosh. It's Malfoy. If he sees my spying on him I'm dead.
I glance through the curtains one more time, and I see him looking around making sure no one can see him, and when he saw no one was there, or so he thought, he crumpled up and put a piece of paper down, but I couldn't see where exactly.
I go to hide myself again right away though because Malfoy comes in my direction to leave the hospital wing.
After Malfoy's gone, I leave from my hiding spot to go and sit by Hermione. I look around for a crumpled paper, but it's nowhere to be seen.
I didn't have much time to by with Hermione alone though, shortly after I started to get comfortable in one of those uncomfortable hospital chairs by Hermione, Harry and Ron come in.
They both notice me sitting by her bed, "Oh, hey Y/n." They both say.
"Hey guys." I say, motioning them to come and sit with me.
Ron stays standing by the foot of Hermione's bed, and Harry sits on the edge of the bed.
Harry takes her hand sadly and says, "Wish you were here Hermione. We need you... now more than ever."
He pauses though, and takes something out of her hand. The crumpled piece of paper!
"What's that?" Ron asks.
I'm about to answer, but then Harry says, "Guys, this is why Hermione was in the Library the day she was attacked. Come on!" He says as we all move away from the bed and now down the corridor.
"'Of the many fearsome beasts that roam our land, none is more deadly than the basilisk. Capable of living for hundreds of years, instant death awaits any who meet this giant serpent's eye. Spiders flee before it.'" Harry reads off from the paper as we speed-walk through the corridors, "Guys this is it. The monster in the Chamber of Secrets is a basilisk. That's why I can hear it speak. It's a snake!" Harry exclaims.
"But if it kills by looking people in the eye, why is it no one's dead?" Ron questions.
"Because no one did look it in the eye. Not directly, at least." Harry realizes, "Colin saw it through his camera. Justin must have seen the basilisk through Nearly Headless Nick. Nick got the full blast of it- but he's a ghost- he couldn't die again." He explains, "And Hermione had the mirror. I bet you anything she was using it to look around corners, in case it came along."
"And Mrs. Norris? I'm pretty sure she didn't have a camera or a mirror, Harry." Ron says.
"The water. There was water on the floor that night. She only saw the basilisk's reflection." I explain, remembering that night.
