You stuffed your mouth with another spoonful of ice cream, pleasuring your tastebuds with the creamy flavor dancing on your tongue. Hawks sat next to you on the roof pavement reclining himself with his arm.
"How's your bad day sundae?" You asked before popping a cherry in your mouth.
"Best bad day sundae I've ever had," he responded it was a little muffled due to him trying to respond with some of the treat still in his mouth. "I almost feel like an idiot because this day had ended so well."
You giggled at his comment before placing your now-empty bowl on the floor next to you and refocused on the enchanting cityscape. "It really is beautiful up here." You sighed bringing up your knees to your chest.
"Yeah," he whispered responded looking up from his bowl and looking over at you. Of course, he knew that you were talking about the city but he couldn't help his gaze as studied your figure, taking in your image as a small breeze blew, waving your hair swiftly.
"I always wanted my wedding to be under the night sky. I imagined twinkling across my wedding gown. It would have been so beautiful. I still wish I'd done it that way." You spoke, closing your eyes and recalling your imaginary wedding.
"Why didn't you?" he asked.
You opened your eyes and looked down, "Saburo didn't want to. He's never cared much about anything I want." You sighed but kept your smile up so as to not worry the hero.
"That's his loss. You would've been gorgeous in the starlight," turning to look at you, his body now faced you completely.
You blushed from the compliment and smiled to yourself, "thanks...that's what I said." You teased at the end.
He laughed. "And you could do a whole starry theme, with little lights hanging around."
"Totally, you get it," you couldn't help but admire his sudden interest in your imaginary wedding. You laughed at his excited tone and the sparkle that seemed to appear in his eyes as he talked about more ideas. "Saburo just wanted some boring civil service. Justice of the Peace, a couple of friends, nothing special."
"Lame," he crowed giving you a disapproving look.
"Your idea is way more fun. Maybe I should've married you." You teased, a silent second passed by before you started panicking, the words now processed. "I-uh. That was a joke! I didn't mea-"
You were cut off by Keigo's laugh, "don't worry, I know what you mean. Honestly, I don't know if I'm even ready to get married." His eyes lowered in embarrassment, "I mean, I love Niko...at least, I think I do."
"You two certainly fight a lot." You pointed out, "not that I'm judging. You've seen my husband and me."
"Yeah. I just think that sometimes she just wants me to fail. I got this one-in-a-lifetime opportunity for my hero work, but she just keeps expecting me to lose."
"That's awful, she should be happy for you! And if she hasn't said it, I will: Congrats on scoring number two, hero." You playfully nudged his arm.
Hawks smiled in your direction, "thanks, Y/n. I'm really hopeful about it all working out when I talk with Endeavor."
"You'll do great." The moment you finished your sentence the loud boom and crackle of an explosion sounded behind you. "Oh! The fireworks are starting!" You cheered turning to look at the burst of colors.
You both sat down in your seats looking up at the different patterns and shapes of the fireworks as they went off in the air and left a sparkle of dust as evidence of their previous position in the purple and pink-dyed sky.
...
After the show, you headed back to your apartment with Hawks and cleaned the dishes.
"Thanks for helping with the dishes." You thanked him.
"Of course, it's the least I could do," he responded with a smile.
"And thank you again for cheering me up. I really needed that after the day I've had."
"Anytime, I definitely needed this too," he admitted, when he finished he took a step closer, enveloping his arms around you in a hug.
When his arms wrapped around you, butterflies burst in your stomach. This wasn't just a friendly embrace. There was something between the two of you - tense, palpable. You leaned into the weight of him and let him hold you. His crimson-colored wings wrapped around you, the soft feathery texture tickling the back of your neck.
"What's going on here? What are you doing with this guy?!" A familiar voice boomed angry and in disbelief, causing you and Hawks to jump apart in shock.
