My eyes got wide when I saw her and I nearly dropped the pitch fork I was holding. She never rode. Not ever. She always came up with some lame excuse about how she was to busy or she didn't feel well. I had seen pictures of her riding but never was able to get her to ride with me.
She seemed equally surprised to see me as I was to see her. I stood there waiting for her to dismount so I could get an explanation but all she did was say two simple words. "Tack up."
I nodded and grabbed Moonstruck's bridle and my helmet. Moon trotted over to me and I slipped his bridle on. Vaulting onto his back, I spurred him forward into a swift trot to meet my mom. My mom and I trotted to the end of the pasture and down a trail. We slowed to a walk and rode in silence for a while. Mom was the first to break the silence.
"Jess, I know your not happy about the move but you can't just lash out at your father like that. Is every thing okay?" She questions, concern clear on her face.
"Yeah. Its just that we just settled in and we haven't even had a chance for it to be a home and now dad wants to turn it into a motel for crazy kids. And what's more, he wants to make Whisper a horse for someone else to ride the entire time they are here and take care of. I just got her! It seems like he wants to make me miserable!" I shout.
"I know what you mean. Your dad told me about the idea and I knew it was time I got back into the saddle. And believe me, it sure feels great." She smiles.
"Why are you riding dads horse?" I ask curiously.
"Because I wasn't sure where Starlight was." She replied.
"Oh." Was all I could manage to say.
We rode in another comfortable silence until I heard it. The sound of hundreds of hooves hitting the ground. I thought I was imaging things until Moon shot forward into a clearing and I was running with a herd of hundreds of mustangs. Their manes and tails flowed out behind them like a million beautiful flags.
Moonstruck raced ahead of several different mares with foals. Bays, dapples, chestnuts, paints, palominos, and black horses all ran with eachother like one big working machine, and I was part of it.
Soon enough I spotted him. The lead stallion. The only white horse of the herd.
Omigosh I'm so sorry!! I've been so busy with finals! The simester just ended at school so I have been so stressed that I actually gave myself a headache. Who knew?! Lol.
Anyway, thanks for bearing with me.
Pic on side is lead mustang stallion.
