"Do what!?" Maggie Swan asks as she stares at her father as if he has grown a second head. "Please tell me you're kidding. It's too early for jokes."
"I'm not kidding, Mags," Charlie Swan assures his seventeen-year-old. "Bella's moving home."
Maggie almost verbally groans but she knows her dad wouldn't like that. Charlie has missed Bella, even if their relationship isn't as strong as Charlie and Maggie's will always be. Bella was always closest to their mother, Renee, while Maggie was always closer to Charlie.
"I'm going to school," Maggie mutters and she leaves the house, ignoring her father so he calls out her name.
Maggie drives her black, off-road 2002 Jeep Wrangler to Forks High School and she parks beside her best friend's Nissan. Jessica Stanley smiles in relief when she spots the familiar Jeep pull up to park.
"Finally!" Jessica drones as Maggie hops out of her Jeep. "Rumor has it that a new kid is moving to town. Why didn't you tell me you had a sister?"
"How did that get out so fast?" Maggie asks.
"When the chief of police's other daughter is moving to town, it doesn't stay a secret very long," Jessica states as Maggie grabs her bag from the backseat of her Jeep and she closes the door. "You knows we would have found out sooner or later."
"I know," Maggie replies with a sigh. "It's just... Bella and I aren't close. Like, at all. She's close to our mom, I'm close to our dad. I love her, but... but it's like we're totally different people than sisters."
"I don't understand," Jessica claims.
"You wouldn't," Maggie claims. "I'm going to class to distract myself from thoughts of my sister's moving here."
Maggie offers Jessica a soft smile before she passes her right as Mike Newton pulls up in his truck. Maggie doesn't even bother with stopping to greet her other friend and she heads straight toward the school, no one else bothering to greet her - which is nothing new.
Maggie isn't all that popular, no where near as much as Jessica claims to be. She's nowhere near as popular as the Cullen family. The Cullens moved to Forks a couple of years ago.
Dr. Carlisle Cullen and his wife, Esme, adopted five teenagers when they were almost too old for fostering. Rosalie and Emmett are a couple, and honestly? Maggie envies their relationship.
Maggie's never been in a relationship. She's never been kissed, she's still a Virgin, but she's not desperate to have her first of anything. She's eager to finish school and then move on with her life during and after college if she gets into the university of Washington.
Then there are Jasper and Alice. Alice is a complete sweetheart. She's spoken to Maggie a couple of times in the classes they share. They share a passion for fashion. Jasper is silent, tense, and is in desperate need of a massage. But he never has said anything rude or out of the way to Maggie, so she's fine with his non-speaking.
Then there's Edward Cullen, the lone wolf. He is the only single one in the family, as Maggie gathered when the family first came to Forks. He's quiet, like Jasper, but isn't as tense.
