The next day, Max invited Jane to spend the night at home. It wasn't to flirt or ask her out, but they had a presentation to prepare in English, and they didn't want to do it at the last minute. Jane was working on Max's computer while Max was taking notes while reading a book. The two girls were not very happy to do this presentation, they had enough to do with the other classes, but they didn't have the choice. For an unknown reason, Gary was sending lots of messages to Max, lighting on her phone every second with his name appearing on the screen. It was beginning to get on Jane's nerves, she couldn't stop seeing his stupid face kissing Max.
- "I'll tell him I'm busy," Max answered, taking her phone.
Jane just nodded. She preferred not answering, it wasn't Max's fault, and she couldn't blame Gary for loving her, Max was amazing, it was hard to not to. But he didn't have to do it in front of her, it was hard enough like that.
- "Sorry about that," Max mumbled.
- "It's okay. Let's just work."
- "Yeah. You know, you can put your belt on if you want, I—"
- "No, I won't."
Max smiled. She was touched by this; Jane was really a caring person. Max took Jane's hand and kissed the back of it to thank her. Jane turned her head to her and felt her face burning. She had a small controlled smile on her face, making blush the redhead in front of her. The two girls were still holding each other's hand, softly caressing them with their thumbs. Max felt the butterflies invading her body. The warm sensation inside her was so pleasant that she wanted it to last forever. If just holding her hand was making her feel like that, she couldn't imagine how good she could feel by kissing her. Sadly, the door of her mom and stepfather's bedroom slammed, startling Max who quickly took off her hand from Jane's. She did well because the second after, her bedroom door opened, and her mom appeared.
- "We're leaving, you managed to do dinner."
- "Yes, sure," Max answered, trying to make decrease the red of her face.
- "Bye girls."
The mother slammed the door. Now the two girls were alone. As they were tiring to work, Max decided to enjoy the empty apartment to cook something for Jane. Sadly, she didn't have much things to cook. She was a bit disappointed, she wanted to cook something else than pastas. But there was cream, chicken, and parmesan, she could prepare something good with all of this.
- "You know what? Next time, I'll go to the groceries shop before to prepare you something else."
- "Don't, it's okay, I like pastas. And if there are no vegetables, everything is fine," Jane answered.
- "Yeah, but I learnt new recipes, and I wanted to try them with you."
- "You will, don't worry, I won't die tomorrow."
- "I hope!" Max said with a light worried tone. "I don't want you to die!"
- "It's not planned! I'm not dying, okay? I didn't say that to scare you, I'm sorry, I'm just stupid."
- "Yes, you are!"
Jane chuckled. She sat at the central island unit while Max was preparing the food. Jane couldn't take her eyes off her, she was so pretty when she was cooking, she wanted to watch her forever. It was sounding creepy, but she didn't care, Max would never know. Max was giving some quick and discreet glares at Jane and couldn't hold her smile when she was seeing her sparkling eyes in her direction. As everything was cooking, Max sat in front of Jane and asked:
- "If you could be an animal, which one would you be?"
- "A cat, definitely."
- "It's not even surprising."
- "You spend your days sleeping, playing, and eating, and you don't even have to worry about money! And you can have cuddles when you want."
- "Aw, you want cuddles?" Max mocked.
- "What? Cuddles are cool."
- "Yeah, true."
- "What about you?" Jane asked.
- "I would be a bird, to fly away when I want. Why not an eagle."
- "An eagle? You would eat dead bodies!"
- "Jane, we already eat dead bodies every day."
- "Yeah, but they are cooked with seasoning and things like that, they didn't just die of sickness."
- "Yeah, but I'm pretty sure you mixed up eagles with vultures."
- "...Maybe."
Max chuckled which made smile Jane. Max finished to prepare the food before putting the two plates with the pastas inside. The two girls ate their meals while talking about the awful teacher they had in History. After that, they went back in Max's bedroom. The redhead didn't like staying too long in the living-room, she was scared that Neil would beat her for just sitting on the couch. She was feeling safe only in her bedroom. Jane sat again at Max's desk while the redhead was closing her door. But she had an idea. There was no one else in the apartment, and if they were coming back, she could hear the door from her bedroom. Max slowly walked to Jane and placed her hands on her shoulders to massage her. Jane froze, liking that too much, but she was confused.
- "What are you doing?" Jane asked.
- "I'm cuddling you," Max answered with a smile.
Jane smirked and took a deep breathing to not explode. She began to relax and leaned against the chair. Max kept massaging before caressing her neck, her cheeks, and her ears. Jane bit her bottom lip of excitement, not understanding why Max was doing that, but wanted her to continue. Max leaned forward and placed her face against Jane's cheek. The redhead's hands travelled on Jane's body, caressing her arms and her chest. Jane could feel Max's hot breathe in her neck, giving her goosebumps. The two hearts were racing, and their heat increased quickly in their bodies, the butterflies dancing together. Max was about to kiss Jane's neck, but the entrance door slamming made her stop.
Jane took a deep breathing of frustration while Max took off her arms from Jane. The two adults didn't even salute the two girls and went directly to bed. Max and Jane didn't dare to look at each other. The redhead was feeling stupid, she knew that her family would ruin everything between them, no matter what. Jane looked behind her shoulder and saw that Max was worried. The brunette stood and grabbed her hand.
- "Let's finish that presentation, okay?" Jane softly said.
Max nodded with a weak smile, but with tears in her eyes. Jane gently dragged her to her desk before acting like if nothing happened to make Max feel comfortable. Jane was now sure that Max was feeling something for her, no friends would touch her the way she did. But the problem was Neil, she knew he would be an obstacle to their relationship.
