Raegan's POV

Boston had always felt like home to me. When my mom died I was only three years old. My dad was never really around but once she was gone he left for good, too. My grandma jumped at the opportunity to keep me because she didn't want me in the system. My whole life it was just the two of us. My grandpa had passed a year before my mom and I knew it took a toll on my grandma, even though she never talked about it. Moving to Missouri was my only option since I was so young but I always felt a connection to Boston. It was where my mom had intended on raising me and even though it took 20 some years, I made it.

"Yes grandmie, they came a few days ago with the furniture. I'm just shopping for décor. It doesn't feel like home yet," I spoke into my airpods as I walked around Target looking for random things to buy. I didn't have any idea what I was looking for, I just knew I'd know it when I saw it.

"Well, I was thinking about coming out there to help you settle in," she spoke between coughs. I knew she was sick but she wouldn't tell me what was wrong.

"No, I am fine. I will come to you, ok? You don't need to be on anybodies plane," I had already promised to visit her during the holidays. I didn't want her to feel like she had to travel out here for anything. I argued with her some more until she finally gave in. I knew we'd have the same conversation in a few days but I won for now. I came across an elephant sculpture and happily tossed it into my cart. When I got home I placed all of the sculptures and knick knacks I bought around my apartment. I also bought some frames for photos and paintings but I'd ask the landlord to come help me with that later.

I sat comfortably in my living room scrolling through Instagram while the TV played in the background. I set a reminder to post some photos tomorrow for my followers and was just about to put my phone up and focus in on whatever show was on until I felt an urge to look at Jiles' profile. He had gained another million followers since the last time I looked and his hair was grown out the way it used to be when we were in college. He knew I hated when his hair was that long. I sighed quietly to myself and locked my phone, not wanting to think anymore about him. One day I'd get over him all the way but today wasn't that day yet.

Jiles' POV

"I don't want to move to Boston," I said, raising my voice at my manager. I was content in Miami. The Heat was a good team, I liked the weather, and I definitely liked the girls. Plus my salary was more than enough. I liked the life I had here, I didn't want to up and move for a few hundred thousand more a year.

"You're not speaking like someone who wants a ring. You think Miami is getting a ring? No. I know you like being the main man on this team, but you need more than just Jiles to win a championship. Boston has that. You need Boston and they need you," he spoke, pleading his case. I leaned back in my chair not wanting to listen to what I knew was the truth. I had made a name for myself in Miami. I was the third draft pick which already brought attention but once I got my momentum going I was unstoppable. I knew a ring was the main goal but if I just had more time with the Heat I could get us there.

"What's gonna happen to the Nike endorsement? You're my manager you're supposed to think of these things," I argued.

"Do you think I would encourage you to make a move and not have all that lined up? Nike is looking for a new face and a new team to advertise 24/7 365 days a year. Miami has had it's time, using Boston as a branding tool with you as the face of it is just what they need," Everything he was saying made sense it was just hard to hear.

"Ima sleep on it. Call my ma, talk things out with her then I'll hit you," I said. He stood up and gave me a handshake.

"I believe you know what the right thing to do is," he spoke before leaving my condo.

I flopped down on the couch, pulling my phone out to call my mom. She was the only one I trusted. I knew she'd tell me the truth.

"Hey mama," I smiled, hearing her voice. "Nah, everything's straight. Boston's offering me a deal. I'd get to continue on with the plans I've already set with Nike. And my salary would be more. I just don't know,"

"What's hard about that decision baby? Boston has Simmons and Murray. The three of you together could go far. And some extra money never hurt anybody. As long as you get things straightened out with your endorsements I don't think it sounds like a bad move. You're already far as hell from me anyways, what's a few more miles?" she said and I chuckled some. "In the end you'll know what's right. You already know the answer that's in your heart you're just letting the ideas in your head get in the way of that,"

"Damn, ma. You always gotta add some deep shit in there," I laughed after I let those last few words sink in.

"I know you didn't just cuss over this phone," she said, and I could feel that mom look she always gave me all the way from St. Louis.

"Ma you just said hell!" I argued.

"Hell ain't a bad word it's a place and if you keep going down this path of having sex with anything that walks you might find yourself there, Jiles," she started ranting and I rolled my eyes. "I miss when you were with Raegan. She helped you use the little bit of brain you actually have up there," she continued. Somehow our talks always ended up with Raegan's name.

"It's been a year, ma. It's over. And I have a lot of brains,"

"I know you do. You're very intelligent. I just want you to act like it more. Being with that Natasha girl for show is not a good look when you can't keep all these girls quiet," We also had this talk every time I called her. "I'll leave you alone on that, though," she said, probably feeling my annoyance through the phone. "But, like I said, you know what to do. When you figure it out, call me. I'll be waiting to hear,"

"Thanks, I love you," I said sincerely.

"I love you, too baby," she replied before we said our goodbyes and hung up.

My plan was to still sleep on the decision but just like my mom said, I knew in my heart where I was being lead to go.
