Lyanna
My mother always told me that when you died the Moon Goddess would be there to greet you at the edge of the Ethereal Forest, welcoming you back into her loving embrace, releasing you of all your worldly burdens and freeing your soul. That she would be draped in the finest silk robes, orbs of light around her, ready to purify you with her godly powers.
But there was nothing here, it was dark, it was nothingness. Had my mother lied? Had we all been fooled into believing that the Moon Goddess was real, that she guided our fates? I shook my head, clearing my head of those thoughts. No, I refuse to believe that this is the way it ends. Yet, then again, I was not exactly an unsullied soul. There were many misguided deeds in my past, perhaps this was my punishment to be locked away for all eternity.
No, that could not be it either. This was not the way of the light; this was not the benevolent ways of our Goddess. Our fates, stories, were written and preordained in the stars the way they always taught us. The Goddess gave us life, giving us the journey, our souls needed to take, that is what Mother always said. That everything we experience, everything we do, each choice we make will lead us to our destiny. The route we take to the destiny was ours to choose, but somehow, somehow, we would always find ourselves to where she wanted, no needed us to be. I had to believe that was true, there was no other explanation for this void I currently stood in.
"Sid, are you there?" I called out to my wolf. Nothing. "Sid!" I called out to her again, but still nothing. The lack of her voice in my consciousness left me feeling empty, like I was missing half of my being, well I guess I was. The voice I had come to rely on, the only other being I knew I could trust implicitly was gone. Guess I shouldn't be surprised, everyone always leaves me eventually, why would my wolf be any different?
I walked through the plane of nothingness, hoping to come to the end of the barren blank world. It felt like I had been walking for hours but could have been only minutes I could not tell, there was nothing to measure distance or time against. Perhaps it had been eons, who really knew? There were no landmarks or distinguishing features, no light to guide my way it was like a sensory deprivation chamber with no end.
"Hello!" I called out, "Is anyone there? Hello! " Periodically I would try this to see if I could get anyone or thing to answer, at this point I did not care I just did not want to be alone. Even though I said I liked being alone that was not the truth. I hated it, the only thing making being a lone wolf bearable was Obsidian and now I did not even have her.
Tap. Tap. Tap. I heard the faintest of sounds, almost like the soft clicking of a tap shoe on a dance room floor. It was distant, too far away. Tap. Tap. Tap. Shaking my head, I slapped the heel against my temple, trying to break the sound of the tapping from my head. I was hearing things I was sure of it. This was a figment of my imagination; it could not be real I was in the afterlife of nothingness.
Stilling myself and evening my breathing I listened again. Tap. Tap. Tap. If I listened hard enough it was as if the taps were becoming minutely louder as the time ticked by, how fast or slow I could not tell there was nothing to measure the time, it was like being locked in forever, no beginning and no than.
Gathering what little I had left of my wits; I started walking towards the sound. At this point I did not care if this sound was going to be my end or salvation I wanted out of this cavernous blank world. "Hello? Is anyone there? " Once again, I called out, hoping for an answer.
