Elias
Edison wanted a debrief on the battle from the night before, all the details laid out. Most importantly we all wanted to know who the mysterious she-wolf that had randomly appeared was. We were all puzzled, but me most of all could not fully process everything that had happened. In the span of fifteen minutes I had found my mate, quite literally the woman of my dreams, and then watched as she tore her head from a rogue, crashing to the ground with a silver knife protruding from her body.
The events of the battle were on constant repeat in my brain as I played them again and again looking for answers, any answers. She now laid motionless in my room, on my bed, miraculously healing. Everyone always knew that Luna Allison, my mother, was the best of the best of doctors, but even she was stunned by the rapid pace in which my mate was healing.
We were in the Alpha Family quarters of the pack house; I was refusing to move to far from where my mate was. My father had already had to drag me out to the common area to review everything and get something to eat, stating that I would be of no use to my mate if I did not care for myself first. There were papers all over as we were trying to put some order to the previous nights events, creating a timeline, and trying to figure out how they had managed to get so many rogues as close to the border as they had without being detected.
Mother was in the kitchen cooking one of her famous breakfasts, even though it was well past noon, breakfast is always what she served when nerves were frayed. According to her, "Breakfast is the best meal of the day, any time of day was suitable for breakfast, plus there's sugar." We had all heard her say it so many times and it was always at a time when we needed her to lighten the mood for us. This was her way of taking care of us, something we all appreciated.
"There you go, Tate." Mom quietly said, placing a full plate of food in front of my father, kissing his cheek.
"Ally, you are the best. Have I ever told you that?" The quick glance of love and admiration between my parents left me aching a bit. That is what I wanted with my mate, but instead she was laying beaten, battered, and torn apart just down the hallway from us.
"She will be alright." My mother tried to assure me, "She is healing remarkably well. Actually, much faster than I would have anticipated." She placed my own plate of food in front of me and loving hand on my back, rubbing it in soothing circles. "You know she is healing far faster than I have ever seen another wolf heal. The Moon Goddess must have something interesting planned for you two."
I rolled my eyes, "Really Ma? More of that nonsense."
"Believe what you want, Elias, but it is not nonsense." Mom huffed at me.
"But seriously Mom, you weren't there, you didn't see what happened. She walked from the trees just as in my dream, the same green eyes, and black hair." I started to choke on my own words, thinking of the all the blood pooling around her as she laid on the ground. I shuttered, "You didn't see what I saw. I don't even know her name." I finished speaking my voice barely a whisper, as I thought through how she ripped another wolf's head off like it was nothing with a silver blade having been torn down her side. They all gave me sympathetic looks, as Eddie tried to refocus us, but all I cared about was my mate and the fact that I might not ever get the chance to know her.
Everyone quieted down, our attention turned to the food Mom put in front of us, the reports forgotten while we ate, the clicking of the silverware the only sounds being made. "Mate!" Kol suddenly came to life in my head, he had been so forlorn and withdrawn since watching our mate fall. At a breakneck speed I whipped my head up, to see her standing there, watching us. Our eyes met, entrancing me, holding me captive until she broke our connection, sending a shock wave of disappointment through me and making Kol whimper.
