But that was how one transferred from the normal world to Yokai Academy, you supposed. In that moment, you actually found it curious why they would name an Academy after a forest spirit.
"This the first time for you guys?" The bus driver spoke up.
"Yep." You confirmed. The other boy in the bus looked up, startled from his gazing outside the transport.
"Uh, yes." He answered. He straight up looked like a lost puppy. Just plain confused and doe eyed like he'd never been on his own before.
The driver nodded and continued to drive. The end of the tunnel eventually revealed itself. It appeared to lead to a road winding up a coast. Strangely enough, the trees lacked any form of leaves. All of them were this way. In fact, everything just looked.... dead. A glance at the other guy revealed the mutual confusion.
The bus came to a halt at the one tree on the coastal side of the road, a stop sign next to it. Taking that as the signal, you slung your backpack and debarked, the other kid right behind you.
"It looks like another world." The boy commented.
"I'd watch your back if I were you." The driver said cryptically. Come to think of it, he sounded cryptic the entire ride in the brief exchanges you made. Or rather, he was trying to be. Of course you knew what Yokai Academy was. Who was he trying to spook? The other dude?
Once clear, the bus drove off, leaving you to follow the one opening in the tree line that was presumably the path to the school. At first, you reached for your headphones, but then you thought better of it. This dude might want to chat, and being rude to your only acquaintance would be a bad start.
Sure enough, the guy spoke up. "Hey, I didn't get your name."
You turned to face him as you walked. "(F/n)."
"Tsukune." The boy introduced himself. "So you're heading to Yokai Academy too."
"Yep. First year." You replied.
"Same."
Shortly thereafter, the path up ahead opened up. And what occupied this opening appeared to be.... a cemetery. As if the dead looking trees and barren ground did not scream Halloween enough. Tsukune was visibly startled by this reveal, whilst you frowned at the location for something like this.
"Cheery." You remarked sarcastically.
"Yeah." Tsukune muttered. But he turned his head immediately afterwards. "Did you hear something?"
"No. What was-" You were cut off as a rogue cyclist somehow flew in from out of nowhere to smash Tsukune in the back.
"Tsukune!" You called out. The biker promptly fell off the bike, close to the pedestrian whilst the bike careened to a stop further ahead. The audio registered both the whirring of a bicycle wheel and Tsukune groaning in pain.
"That hurt." He grunted as he moved to get up. A move that made him grasp the thigh of the rider that hit him. Her reactive gasp quickly drew attention to this fact by the guys, and also noticing how cute this girl was in the process.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I just got dizzy all of the sudden." The pink haired girl brushed her hair to reveal her face. Green eyes matched an innocent face. And then attention was brought to where Tsukune's hand was.
