Anthony glanced outside his window and saw the caterers coming in. They
were arranging tables and flowers at the garden. He glanced at his watch
and saw that it was almost six in the eveing. He had already changed into
comfortable clothes after a quick hot shower. He thought he smelled freshly
baked bread earlier when he had a quick stroll around the garden. He knew
Rachel was a good cook and baker but never had a chance to taste any of
her recipes. He wondered if he could interrupt her and ask for a little of her
delicious creations. Anthony changed his mind though, he was apprehensive
to bother her.
He had recently broken up with his month long girlfriend. Rachel didn't know
this yet and he doesn't intend to tell her anytime soon. Anthony relished being
a bachelor for the longest time.
He had been extremely successful in his career and a prominent figure in their
community. He has all that he could ask for, yet a certain part of his life felt
empty, a void he wanted to fill.
Marrying Rachel had been a good business arrangement. A welcome
intrusion in fact. They had become good friends. He would sometimes call
Rachel for no apparent reason, sometimes making it an excuse just to talk
to her. He had thought that marrying her would add to his troubles but as
he spent more time with Rachel, he wanted to be much more closer to her,
he felt safe with her. Anthony knew that Rachel doesn't love him and so
does he but he felt that he needed Rachel to be part of his life. And he
knew Rachel wants him to part of her life too. He might not admit it openly
but he has been very excited about their baby.
He'd already bought some toys and had the best sporting goods reserved
for their baby. A month ago, he was sure it was going to be a boy, it was
simply his spot-on instinct.
He was going to ask Rachel to buy some things for the baby tomorrow.
Anthony left his room and search for her. He followed the delicious scent of
freshly baked goods that got his attention ten minutes ago. He found Rachel
at the white and dark blue tiled kitchen. Rachel was taking out a carton of
eggs from inside the refrigerator. She cracked open the eggs into a bowl
and moved to toss away the empty carton in the trash bin.
