Chapter 31

Lunch couldn't have come fast enough. I was hunted with so many silly and stupid questions that if not for the lunch bell, I would have pulled my hair and screamed for everyone to shut up.

I rushed into the cafeteria, sat on our usual table and waited for the rest to join. In case you're wondering how I reacted to Maddie earlier today, here's what I did. I smiled at her and put on my headphones. Thank goodness I brought them. I promised myself to ignore anything Carl related today, and that's exactly what I was gonna do.

I didn't even realize that I had company till Dave kept a lunch tray in front of me. I smiled thankfully at him.

"So....." Dave started.

"So...." I said back.

"So, we saw the picture of Carl and Maddie. Are you alright Isla?" Josh asked.

I put on my best happy face. "Of course I'm alright. Why wouldn't I be?"

"Geesh Isla," Jace said. "We are your friends. You don't have to pretend in front of us. We know you're not fine. If you want, Caleb and I can beat Carl up for you. I'm sure Dave would happily join in."

I smiled a little. "You know, I'm really starting to question your loyalty to Carl."

They laughed. "Yh, Carl is our best mate but that doesn't stop us from calling him out or teaching him a lesson when he's being an asshole." Caleb said.

"Yh, I agree," Kenz said. "But it's not fair to take sides."

"Who said we're taking sides?" Jace asked.

"Yh, he's told us everything and Isla, I really think he's sorry. Give him a chance to apologize to you." Caleb added.

I sighed. "I will but maybe later. I don't want to talk to him now."

"I don't think you should talk to him. Boys are lying scum." Tori spat.

Okay.....something is definitely wrong.

I just noticed that she and Owen haven't said a word to each other since.

"Babe......" Owen said.

"Don't you dare babe me. Where were you on Friday? Why didn't you come to the party?"

Oh! So this is about the party.

"I told you, I was babysitting. Mum and dad were out." He said.

Tori glared at him. "I never thought for once that you can look at me and lie to my face."

"I'm not lying I swear."

"And another lie....!" She exclaimed. "Cause I was trying to call you when Isla went missing on Friday and I couldn't get hold of you."

"You went missing on Friday?!" Dave exclaimed_asked.

"Long story." I replied.

"As I was saying," Tori continued, "I couldn't get hold of you so I called the landline, your parents picked up. They said you told them you were going to a party. So how is that possible Owen?"

Owen's eyes widened. "Tori chill. It's not actually what you think."

"What do you expect me to think huh?" She yelled. "You lied to me and told me you were babysitting then lied to your parents and told them you were going to a party and went somewhere else."

Owen didn't say anything. He just kept quiet.

"Tori calm down. Breathe." Kenz said.

"I can't just take this anymore." Tori said and ran out of the cafeteria. Kenz ran after her.
