Ring ring ring
I groaned and picked up my phone.
"Hello!" I said groggily.
A bright voice spoke. "Hi Isla, it's Darby."
Darby Darby Darby......
It took me a moment to remember who Darby was.
"Oh! Darby, hi. Any problem?" I sat upright on my bed.
"Oh no, there is no problem. I actually called to give you news."
"Is it good news or bad news?"
"It's good news." She said. "The date has been set for the ad."
"What ad? Oh the ad......I'm sorry, I guess my brain is still sleeping."
She laughed. "Don't worry, I get how you feel. You already know that it's in the summer, what you don't know is that it'll be shooting in Florida."
"Florida?"
"Yes."
"Where exactly?"
"Miami," she replied. "You'll be there for about one week; from eleventh to eighteenth of July and don't worry, it's an all expenses paid trip. They also agreed to pay you for one of the commercials before hand but you'll get the rest of the payment after both of them are done."
"Wow.....how much are they paying?"
The amount she told me almost made my eyes bulge out from their sockets.
I laughed before it actually dawned on me.
"What!? For real?"
"Yes, of course."
"Is it for the two of them or for just one?"
"For just one silly," she laughed.
"That's some ridiculously large amount of money for just a commercial." I spluttered out.
"Don't worry, you'll get used to it."
I sighed.
"I pray. Anything else Darby?"
"Oh yes and this is the most exciting one."
My ears perked up a little. "Okay.....now, I'm curious to know."
"I found out about a movie. It's a Christmas movie and they are holding auditions for it next weekend."
"Wait.....?are you saying that......?"
"Yes, I'm saying that you should audition for the lead role."
"But.....but Darby, I......I can't audition for it. I'm not even qualified."
"I call bullshit Isla. What do you mean you're not qualified for it? Of course you are. Do you know how big this is? I'm not talking about an ad, I'm talking about a real movie. A once in a life time opportunity."
"That seems to be a popular phrase in your business." I scoffed.
She laughed. "It kinda is. In show business, every opportunity is a once in a life time opportunity. That's not my main point, my point is that if you get selected for this movie, it can be_____no, scratch that____it will be your big break. The movie is a Christmas spectacular and will be shooting in Canada."
Just great......first Miami, now Canada.....
"So I have to go to Canada for the audition?"
She laughed again. "Of course not. I'll send you the location. It's not too far from your where you live. Just about an hour or at most an hour and thirty minutes long drive."
