“Who has a time portal just chilling in the back of their closet?” Dean asked obviously not sure how to react.
Buck shrugged as if it was a normal thing for someone to own a time portal.
“So we walk through this and end up where?” Sam asked.
“Where ever you’re thinking of at that moment.” Buck answered.
“Can it send us back to our time? On Earth?” Dean asked.
“That’s not something anyone, that I know of, has ever tried until today.” Buck stated.
“It works, Dean. I went back.” Raven said.
“You said you were there for weeks. What were you doing?” Sam asked.
“Well, I wanted to go back to right before the darkness swallowed us but right as I was walking through my dad came to mind. Since I was thinking about him, it took me back to the last good memory I have of him.” She said quietly, looking down at her fingers.
“And that was?” Dean pried.
“A few weeks before he died of cancer.” Raven answered.
“Raven,” Sam started in a regretful tone.
“No. It’s ok. I am glad it happened. I got to relive those moments with him. Feel the happiness again. Hear his laugh…” she trailed off with a few tears falling from her eyes.
Sam pulled her into a comforting hug. She smiled up at him, wiping the tears from her face and said,
“I’m ok, really. I’m glad I got to go. So many things were left unsaid. I got to say them. I had a second chance to say exactly what I needed to say to him before he passed.”
“Yeah but to relive that…” Dean started.
“I left before it happened. Being the past, I knew when it would happen, so I waited until I was there with him, well myself from that time, and then I left.”
“You said you were there for a few weeks but only gone from here for an hour?” Dean asked.
“Yeah. Time is different through this portal. It’s weird.” She replied.
“So,” Dean looked at Buck. “If someone were to be in the past for years, would they age when they come back here?”
“Sort of. But it’s not like you would expect. If you’re in the portal for years, here you’re more than likely only gone for a few months. So you would age through our time here.” Buck explained.
“Wait, so if I go back to, let’s say, the 1970’s from our Earth. We wouldn’t age there through the years?” Sam asked.
“Correct.”
“Dude. We could live forever!” Dean exclaimed nudging Sam’s shoulder.
“It wouldn’t be that easy.” Raven said. “You still exist in the past. So there would be you and the past you. And you can’t change things all that much. I tried. Events still played out as they were meant to, just differently.”
“Well hell.” Dean said in disappointment.
“Well all we really need to go back for is to figure out what happened when the darkness came.” Sam said.
“Well, focus on that moment in time and walk through the portal. But if you go together, you all have to be focused on the exact same moment. Otherwise you’ll be in separate pasts.” Buck cautioned.
“Raven, you coming with us?” Dean asked.
“I’ll wait for you guys here. We can’t change what happened so I’ll just wait for you to tell me what happened.” She said looking to Buck.
“Not a problem. I’ll have Julie put dinner on. Will you guys be back for dinner?” he asked turning to the boys.
“Not sure. If she was only gone for an hour or so but over there for weeks, we should be back fairly quick.” Sam said.
Buck nodded and left the room leaving the three of them to themselves.
“You guys be careful over there. Don’t go dying in the battle. That can still happen. You die over there, you’re dead here. You won’t come back.” Raven said hugging the two.
Sam and Dean locked arms. “Focus on Chuck glowing.” Dean directed. Sam nodded and they walked into the portal together.
“Whoa. This is trippy.” Dean said as they appeared in the Green Room peering out into the shattered warehouse.
“Not sure how I feel about watching myself watch Chuck turn into a human lantern.” Sam stated. “Why are we just standing there? Why didn’t we do something?”
“Because we had no idea what was going on.” Dean answered.
The two of them watched quietly at the show before them. Castiel was sneaking up behind Chuck. He grabbed Chuck’s arm, thrusting the knife into his back causing himself to be flung backwards from an invisible force. He was thrown into an already crumbling wall, causing it to bow inwards and slid to the floor unconscious. His body seemed to be glowing slightly.
“Well now we know Cas was actually knocked out.” Dean observed.
The high pitch sound came without warning. Sam and Dean covered their ears trying to stay focused on themselves. They noticed a blur in front of their bodies on the floor. Once the blur was gone they seen something covering their bodies. Dean focused closer.
“No way.” He stated in awe.
Sam concentrated on what Dean was looking at and his jaw dropped when it became clear.
Michael, Castiel, and Gabriel locked their arms together, shielding them with their wings. Castiel’s wings stood out with a golden glow around them.
Sam and Dean looked at each other and then there was complete darkness. Dean grabbed onto Sam’s arm as they both appeared back in Buck’s bedroom.
“You saw that, right?” Sam asked.
“Castiel, Michael, and Gabriel shielding us? I did. I also definitely seen Castiel glowing.” Dean answered in a state of shock.
“So not only are they angels, they are basically heroes.” Sam said as a grin crept across his face.
“That’s what you take from this?” Dean asked in frustration. “Come on, we have to try to find them. They surely survived if we did, right?”
“I don’t know, Dean, where would we even begin to look?” Sam asked.
Before Dean could say anything they were interrupted by the sound of fluttering wings. The two turned around to see Castiel standing behind them looking around in confusion.
“Where are we?” he asked looking to Sam and Dean.
The two brothers jumped forward and embraced Castiel in a hug causing him to stiffen.
“I don’t understand.” He stated as Sam and Dean stepped back.
“How did you find us here?” Dean asked.
“I don’t really know. I felt a tugging sensation. I closed my eyes and here I am.”
“Cas, you saved us.”
