I Don't Know How to Be Human

Raven was helping Julie wash the dinner dishes while Buck and the guys were sitting outside on the porch having a beer.

“Is this the first time anything like this has ever happened?” Raven asked Julie as she took a plate from her and dried it.

“You mean having strange people from a completely different universe stumble out of our woods?” Julie asked sarcastically.  “Yes, this would be a first for me.  As for Buck, he has had an encounter such as this one before but it was many years before I ever met him.”

“Really?  Buck has met people from other universes before?” Raven’s curiosity had been spiked.

“From your Earth.” Julie answered.

Raven continued to dry dishes in silence, thinking about everything that had taken place.  The world ended.  All of existence was supposed to end but for some reason this universe, galaxy, or planet remains.  If it was part of God’s creations, how did it survive his total destruction?  The guys say Castiel, Gabriel, and Michael shielded us from sudden doom but Cas says he doesn’t know if anyone else made it through the battle.  How did we make it through the battle? She thought to herself.

She gazed out the kitchen window as she dried the remaining dishes Julie left rinsed in the sink.  Lost in her thoughts, she jumped when someone bumped into her.  She looked down to see a little girl holding a beat up looking doll in her arms.  She dried the last plate, dried her hands off on the towel and knelt down in front of the little girl.

“Hello there, my name is Raven.  What’s your name?”

“Vannah.” The little girl answered shyly.

“That’s such a pretty name.  Is it short for Savannah?” Raven asked.

The little girl nodded fiddling with the torn arm on her doll.

Raven touched the dolls arm, “It looks like she’s hurt.  What happened to her?”

“Tommy threw her and broke her arm.”

“Tommy is your brother?”

“Yes.”

“Does your mommy keep sewing supplies near?” Raven asked.

“Yes but I’m not allowed to touch them.” Savannah answered.

“Ok, let’s go find your mommy.” Raven said taking her hand and walking out onto the front porch.

Julie was sitting on the porch swing next to Buck, talking with Sam, Dean, and Castiel.  When she noticed Raven walking with Savannah she jumped to her feet.

“Is everything ok?  She’s not bothering you, is she?” Julie asked.

“No, no. Everything is just fine.  I was just wondering if I could use some of your sewing supplies.” Raven said smiling down at Savannah.  “It looks as if we have a patient in need of surgery.”

Savannah’s smile grew wide as she looked to her mother with pleading eyes.

“Surgery?  Who is hurt?” Castiel asked.

Sam and Dean both laughed and started explaining the doll was the patient needing fixed.

Raven followed Julie back into the house and sat down at the kitchen table with Savannah.

“If she becomes a bother, don’t hesitate to come get me.” Julie said as she handed Raven a shoe box.

“She’s no bother,” Raven said smiling at Savannah.  She ran her hand down Savannah’s hair, looking back at Julie and said, “I promise.”
