A debate was currently being held in my head. My ego against my protective side. Staring at Cara in the distance, my ego was telling me not to approach her as she talked with that red haired jock. On the other hand, I couldn't help but notice how fidgety she was, how she shifted her weight from one leg to another, how she avoided looking at him straight in the eyes. She sometimes would look around and I knew she was trying to find me.

I scanned my apartment, looking for Riley or Martina. They were all sitting on the couch, including Ace, as Luca stood before them, dancing in a really sexy, feminine way. Riley covered her face, she was probably blushing like crazy, as Martina laughed loudly clapping her hands, and Ace rolled his eyes, trying to fight a smile.

With a shake of my head, I ignored my crazy best friend as he accepted a dollar bill from Martina, who put it under his pants, before he leaned down and grabbed Riley's face, kissing her all over while he tried not to laugh.

I returned to the blonde skater in the other side of the room.

How did Cara end up talking to that guy?

Sighing, I grabbed a soda from the fridge and approached them. I didn't even try to listen what the guy was saying when I cut him off.

"Hey." I nodded my head once.

Cara's eyes lit up as she turned her head around to look at me. A little relieved smile creeping up her lips. "Nico."

"I wanted to show you something." I said, gesturing to the hallway.

"Dude, I was talking to her." The red haired guy, who I knew was red haired, not because of the hair, since he was wearing a hat backwards, but because of his thick red eyebrows.

"And who are you?" I asked, raising my left eyebrow in annoyance.

"Who are you?" He repeated.

"Well, this is my house." I said with an aggravated smile.

"Well, shit." He pursed his lips and took off the hat, running a hand along his hair just to put it back on. "I know... I know I know someone in here..." He gestured behind him.

"What did you want to show me?" Cara asked quickly.

I stared at him for a moment until I got bored, before I turned my head slowly towards Cara. "It's in my room."

She nodded and followed me, leaving the guy sipping awkwardly from his cup. She gripped my arm once again, and I had to remind myself that 'friends' was all that was ever going to be for us.

"What did you want to show me?"

"Nothing. Just an excuse." I mumbled. "Why were you talking to that guy?" I asked calmly as I sat down on my bed, motioning for Cara to do the same thing. She did, only she didn't put her feet up, examining a book in my bedside table. I was feeling kinda sleepy, so I rested my back on the headboard, trying hard not to close my eyes. Last night I couldn't stop tossing and turning around in my bed, thinking about the surgery I might need. Add to that, the weed, and you have the best recipe for a nap.

"You left me alone." She said opening the book and turning the pages. I could only see her back and a little of her profile, the cute tip of her nose making a small appearance.

"You went to the bathroom." I pointed out.

"I didn't want to make it awkward." She whispered, her fingers tracing the lines on the page.

"I told you I was sorry. I get it. Just friends. You actually make it awkward if you leave." I hid my bottom lip inside my mouth.

"Well, I wasn't thinking." We stayed quiet for a moment. I ran a hand along my face, wishing the party was just over so I could sleep. "What's this book about?"
