"Can we please go sit with them now." I whined as Hannah swallowed the last of her pancakes. "Fine." She sighed as we got up from our seats and made our way subtly over to the Gryffindor table.
"Scooch over Neville." I tapped him gently on the shoulder as he obliged and slid over to the right, giving Hannah and I space to sit next to Harry. Harry didn't notice our entrance, as he was deep in a serious conversation with Hermione and Ron, something about Professor Dumbledore who I had noticed wasn't present at the Teachers table.
"Ahem." I coughed slightly to get his attention. The three of them turned, a look of horror present on their pale faces. "Shit, Mirabelle.. I thought you were Umbridge." Ron breathed out as Harry's face held on to the same expression of affliction, even after he recognised it was me and not Professor Umbridge.
"Harry what happened last night? Are you okay?" I said uncertaintly, not wanting to disturb him anymore with extra questions.
"Dumbledores gone." The words tumbled out of Harrys mouth without hesitation, he looked directly at me, his eyes unwavering. "What." Was all I could manage to say.
No, no, no..
"He took the blame from me." Harry began, obviously feeling responsible for the incident. "And that was all they needed to condemn him for trying to take down Fudge." He looked away now. "They were going to take him away, so he vanished." He went on.
I remained still as he explained the events of the night before, trying my hardest to subdue my rapidly beating heart. My voice was caught in my throat, as I struggled to gasp for air. No was all I could think. No he's lying. I tried to convince myself, though I knew he wasn't.
Dumbledore was gone. And I was now in grave danger.
"Mirabelle..?" Hermione reached across the table suddenly, and placed a kind hand on my arm. "Are you okay?" She cooed, her eyebrows furrowed in concern. I looked up at her, racking my brain for an answer. I tried to string a sentence together but all I could muster was an inaudible "No."
I felt my face grow hot as tears spilled out of my eyes, my gaze dropped to my feet as I felt Hannah wrap her arms around me. "Mirabelle.. What's wrong?" She rubbed my back as Ron, Hermione and Harry exchanged looks of confusion.
"My father." I cried out between heavy breaths. Hannah's eyes widened as she broke the hug, looking at me as though she knew exactly what I meant. "He's going to try to come for you now that Dumbledores gone... Isn't he." She hesitated, her eyes wide.
I nodded, bringing my hands up to cover my face as I tried desperately to cease my crying. I heard Ron and Harry let out an almost silent gasp as Hermione got up from the table quite abruptly. "We have to take you to Professor McGonagall." Hermione Inquired.
"Not now.. Umbridge is at the table." Ron warned. "Then we'll do it after breakfast." Harry suggested as Hermione sat back down in agreement.
----
After our meal, the trio, Hannah and I waited outside the Great Hall for Professor McGonagall to emerge. "Professor!" Hannah called after the tall woman as she began to stride right past us. "Hannah?" Professor McGonagall turned around impatiently, making her way back over to us.
"We need to speak to you.." Hermione chimed in as Professor McGonagall's eyes studied each of us. When her gaze reached mine, she suddenly paused. "Very well then." She hurried off as we followed behind, struggling to keep up.
"Professor, Mirabelle's father is going to try to collect her now that Dumbledore isn't here." Hannah started, as we entered Professor McGonagall's office. "Dumbledore has already left me strict instructions on how to take care of the matter." Professor McGonagall assured us. "You will stay with your uncle.. Sirius Black." She finished as my jaw dropped open.
