"Draco, where are we going?" I whined, following Draco around the large outside of the castle from which he was leading me. "We need rose thorns, do you not know anything?" He rolled his eyes.
"Couldn't we split up and do this? I think we both know that us working together can only end out in an argument, or detention." I frowned. "Too bad." He rounded the corner, and wandered over to a large rose bush that climbed the stone walls of the castle.
"Wow." I gaped at it, it was quite pretty. Healthy red roses bloomed all the way up the walls. "I imagine this is what Aurora's tower would have looked like." I approached the bush, and we began plucking the thorns off of the vines.
"Who's Aurora?" He furrowed his brows in confusion. "Sleeping Beauty..? You've never read sleeping beauty, do you live under a rock?" I scoffed. "Sounds like a muggle story, of course i've never-"
"Ouch!" I let out a sharp cry of pain as I pierced my thumb on the thorn I was picking. I tried to free my finger, but it only lengthened the cut. "How fucking clumsy are you?" He scoffed, grabbing my wrist and inspecting the cut.
"Why are you- What do you care." I pulled my hand out of his grip, taken aback by his sudden concern. "Just let me fix the bloody cut, would you?" He grabbed my hand back, pointing his wand at any thumb and watching as it slowly healed up.
"I could have done that." I grumbled. "You were too busy crying about it, I had to step in." He clarified, as if scared i'd believe he had grown soft. "What next?"
"We'll get Ashwinder eggs, they're in the astronomy tower." He started off back into the school without me. "I still don't understand why we can't get the ingredients separately.. Can you wait up!?" I hurried after him.
"Have mummy and daddy got you on a mission to befriend me, is that why?" I groaned as he sped up his pace. "Piss off, i'm not trying to befriend you." He made his way down the hallway. "Then do you just not trust me to find the ingredients?"
"We're potions partners, we have no choice but to collect them together." He groaned. "Snape isn't going to know. You're in Slytherin, don't you thrive on breaking the rules when it benefits you? I'm sure you don't want to be here with me, so let's spilt up."
"You think so highly of me." He rolled his eyes. "There." We reached the top of the astronomy tower, and Draco crossed the room to retrieve three of the Ashwinder eggs. "Mother of Pearl and the peppermint oil are already in the potions classroom, we just need a moonstone." He hurried back down the stairs.
"We can check Professor Trelwaney's classroom. I suppose she'd have all sorts of stones and crystals." He sped down the corridor and I attempted to catch up to him. "Great. Can I go then?" I panted.
"No. You have to help me look." He scowled. "Fine." I huffed as we reached the classroom. "Would this be considered stealing?" I frowned. "Of course not." He shook his head, though I wasn't convinced he was being entirely honest.
I was glad when we couldn't find a moonstone in her classroom, I didn't particularly want to steal from a Professor. "Perhaps we'll use this pretty little necklace of yours.." Draco's eyes flickered down to my neck.
"I suppose it'd do the same job." He picked it up in his hands, turning it over to inspect the back. "Don't touch it." I shoved his hand away. "Why so feisty? A gift from your boyfriend?" He cocked his head to the side and I felt oddly sheepish under his gaze.
"Never mind. If you won't give me the necklace, then we'll just have to find a moonstone the hard way." He sighed. "And what way is that?" I followed after him. "We have to steal one from Professor Snape's potions cupboard." His eyes gleamed evilly.
"Snape? No, absolutely not. If you get caught you'll live, but if I get caught?" I shivered. "Bad idea. Very bad idea." I shook my head. "You're just a coward." He sneered. "It's called self preservation, Draco." I rolled my eyes.
"Well it's not like we have another choice. Risk getting caught and getting in trouble with Snape, or know for certain we can't complete the potion tomorrow and definitely get in trouble with Snape." He paused, waiting for my disagreement. When none came, we made our way to the potions cupboard. Draco walking smugly beside me.
"I'm full of bright ideas." He cocked his eyebrows suggestively. "Piss off." I scoffed. "We're here.. Alohamora!" He pointed his wand at the lock, unlocking it and pushing it open. "Okay, lets be quick." We closed the door behind us and began to search for a moonstone.
"I have a bad feeling." I frowned as we searched. "If Snape didn't want his stuff stolen, he wouldn't have made it so easy to break in." He snickered. "You're a terrible person." I frowned. "You're just stuck up." He stuck his nose in the air. "Says you." Suddenly, the sound of fast approaching footsteps hurried down the corridor.
"You suck up to Professor Snape so much it makes my physically nauseous-" I began. "Shut up." Draco cut me off. "Don't tell me to shut up, you shut-"
"No, seriously." He grabbed my shoulders pushing me against one of the shelves and pressing his hand up to my mouth. "Listen." He whispered. "Someones coming.." He quickly turned the lights out, and pushed me further into the wall as the persons stopped outside the cupboard.
Please don't come in.. Was all I could manage to think, but when the sound of the lock unlocking, and the door was pushed open, my prayers were for naught. Thankfully, Draco and I were on the side of the door that was hidden, Snape presumably on the other side.
Not so thankfully, the cupboard was small, and Draco was forced to push himself completely against my body, so the door could open as far as Snape pushed it. The cupboard was dark and cool, but Draco's warm body up against mine distorted my thinking.
I tried to focus on staying completely still and quiet. However, I suffered miserably as I found myself at a sudden loss for breath and in desperate need to gasp for more air.
I closed my eyes tightly as Draco squished me into the wall, moving his face closer to mine. I kept completely frozen as the sound of jars clinking and rattling together sounded from the other side of the door, thankfully Snape didn't suspect we were here, he was simply looking for something.
I let out an almost inaudible cry of surprise as Draco's knee found it's way in-between my legs. "Shut the fuck up." He whispered into my ear, and I bit my lip to suppress my desire to yell back at him.
I leaned my head against the back wall, tilting my face up, desperate for fresh air. I felt Draco's breathing stop for a moment, but it quickly returned, tickling the skin upon my neck. "Stop breathing so much." He whispered. "I'm a little bit uncomfortable, if you haven't noticed." I muttered sarcastically.
"Don't lie, you're enjoying this." He leaned closer to my ear, sending a shiver down my spine. The door was pushed open a tad more, and Draco was forced to hide his face in my neck. I immediately got a whiff of his scent.
I inhaled sharply as there was more movement, and Snape's hand appeared in my vision, reaching for one of the jars. Once Snape had grabbed the jar, the door quickly shut, and Draco and I were alone. He removed himself from me, and I felt myself breathing out a breath that I hadn't realised I was holding in.
The most confusing part of the next few moments wasn't that Draco, for the first time ever, was at a loss for words and refused to look up from the ground. It was that I had strangely not felt repulsed by being so close to him for so long, and that there was an unfamiliar rush of adrenaline coursing through my veins.
Of course I was filled with adrenaline at almost getting caught, but it was also something else. Like being in such a close proximity with Draco was thrilling and almost entrancing, but I despised the thought, so I pushed it right down.
"The pearl." Draco looked up, pointing behind me. "Oh." I turned around, plucking a jar off the shelf which was labeled 'Mother of Pearl.' I opened the jar, pulling out one of the pearls. "Why is we're always stuck in cupboard together." I mumbled under my breath.
