After a quick stop to get Blaze settled into the stable,
And a cool drink from the well,
Jake and Josie stumbled back to the hotel.
As brother and sister walked into through the door,
Behind the counter, Jujube swore,
"Hell, you both look like you've had quite the day. I'll have a bath sent up to your room right away. I'm glad to see you back in one piece Josie."

Josie sighed, "So am I. Would it be too much trouble to get a bowl of rabbit stew too?"
"The kitchens closed, but I'll rustle some up just for you. I'll have it sent up to your room."
"Thank you kindly Jujube."
"Now run along now Josie. Up to our room. Get cleaned up and I'll meet you up there soon."
Jacob eyed the saloon. He craved a drink. He needed a bath and time to think. He really did stink. But ladies first. And Josie Pie, certainly didn't smell so sweet. She was so tired, she drug her feet.
Besides Jacob wanted to talk to Jujube for a spell. About the happenings at the hotel. Particularly about Rue.
"I heard there was trouble at the hotel?"
"I heard the same thing about you out with Denver's crew. That's a lot of blood on you, Jake."
"It's not mine. But I heard a woman from Rue's tribe was shot and died. And that Ronan took a bullet too? How is Rue?"
"Shaken up. She needed sometime to sort things out. She left town for a bit. Said a week outta do it."
Jacob cursed, "And Ronan is expected to pull through?"
Jujube snorted, "Don't look so happy about it Jake. He means a lot to Rue. But I don't know. Guess that's up for the great spirit to decide."
"Thank you Jujube for your time. We can catch up more later. But for now I need a drink."
"You really do stink. And just cause Rue ain't here, don't mean you don't have to follow her rules. What do you take me for Jake, a fool?"
"I just meant water. And a bowl of stew. It'd be awfully kind of you."
Jujube conceded and Jacob retreated. He found himself wondering towards the saloon.

Several men filled the room. Each chasing ghosts or trying to forget them. A room full of angry and lonely men.
What Jake wouldn't give for a shot of whiskey or two. That's when he noticed Mary Sue seated in the back of the room.
She threw back a whiskey not very daintily. Several empty glasses were on the table too. She did not look well, her hair a mess. A couple buttons open on the top of her dress.
Jacob watched a man leave the bar and stalk towards Mary Sue. No doubts about what he was trying to do.
It would be easy to get the drunk girl up to that brutes room.

Jacob sighed and knew it would get back to Rue, that he was seen with Mary Sue.
But right now interceding was the right thing to do.
Jacob put a smile on his face and made for her table with great haste. He cut the man off, gave Mary Sue a kiss on the cheek.
"I thought you would be asleep. Thanks for waiting on me. Sorry honey."

Mary Sue looked at Jake with wide eyes, but didn't call his bluff. The man cursed and stumbled off. Wisely deciding not to make trouble tonight. That was good as Jake wasn't up for a fight.
Jake slid in the chair. He could see she was in distress Usually so put together, now looked a mess.
"You shouldn't be in a place like this Mary Sue. It's not safe for you."
She laughed, "Let me guess, you're a gentleman now Jake? Or is that you want to take me back to my place ?"...
