Every week since his mother died, Alex would go to her grave to lay flowers and tell her about his week. His weeks were usually uneventful and he would just sit there and watch the sunset. It wasn't the same, but it was nice.
The flowers weren't always the best. He couldn't always afford a full bouquet, and when he could it was always the cheap ones. Sometimes, he brought nice flowers, but he never bought those. Those flowers, he would take from some rich kid's garden.
He never thought anyone would notice, the garden was huge! But here he was, standing in front of the kid with a small bouquet of his flowers in hand. He turned red in embarrassment.
"I'm sorry, I swear I can explain-"
He kid laughed, causing Alex's heart to flutter. "Dude, I don't care. Keep the flowers."
Alex let out a sigh of relief. "Oh-"
"But, I'm coming with you. You're a hot dude, I'm sure she'll say yes. I just want to make sure the girl is pretty enough to warrant this flower theft."
Alex didn't know what to say. He was letting him keep the flowers, but... "Oh, okay."
"Lead the way."
-
"Um, quick question. Why are you meeting at a cemetery?" The kid asked. There was a beat of silence. "Oh...oh my god, I'm so sorry."
Alex lightly smiled. "No worries, you didn't know."
"This is going to sound kinda insensitive, but was she pretty? I'm sorry that probably wasn't a good joke," he mumbled.
Alex laughed. "First of all, she was my mom. Second of all, yeah she was."
The kid's eyes widened. "Oh I-"
"Don't worry about it."
